I also think part of it is that this is a lot of people's first teamwork-based (read: not simply team-based) game in general.
The initial wave of popularity brought in a bunch of casual gamers, comic book boomers, variety streamers, covid "e-girls", etc. who've never actually experienced a game that requires heavy team coordination to win. At most, they might have played some Fartnite or Call of Duty, where you are technically on teams but everyone is essentially just fucking around on their own and trying to get kills.
In contrast, those who've played OW, MOBAs, etc. are already used to shitter teammates and understand that it's just part of the game. They understand that yes, you ARE expected to carry the 3/11 feeder, and yes that IS how all the top players climbed ranked.
