There is a strain of 'pride in incompetence' that is common in the 'too cool to try' crowd, which is really just a behavioral outcome of a fear of rejection. Basically, If you present something shit while acknowledging that it is shit, no one can really judge you for it being shit. But If you put your heart into something and it is called shit, well then your ego is on the line. It is exactly as superficial and performative as the instagram crowd who create aesthetic meals they won't actually eat, but with an added appeal of aloofness and irony because it sees itself in opposition to it.
It's pretty juvenile but a lot of people never get over it. Also this board is filled with amerisloppers who have no taste.
