Windows task manager shows 100% usage at idle. Malware scan was mostly clean - just the KMS activator used to crack windows 8.1 like a decade ago (lol)

Chalk it up to a dead hard drive. Buy them a new SSD and install Mint on it. Give them shortcuts to Firefox and Thunderbird (what they were using and used to for email)

Also curious has anyone ever run a small PC repair business for boomers/old GenX/technically inept people? Feels like easy money if you charge a $100 call minimum+ a fair hourly wage. Could also possibly do things like advisory PC shopping or custom builds.
