toners can add in some moisture and ingredients, but are mostly blah, not really needed. i throw some on right after a shower, which seems to help retain moisture.

i will say give it a few weeks after you think your skin is good to try to start adding back in other products. just because the skin barrier is thick enough to stop the hurting doesn't mean it's thick enough to handle actives being thrown at it.

you may not need a exfoliant at all. if your skin barrier is naturally thin it won't help you anyways. especially if you're already using tret. shaving is also physically exfoliating. i think a good rule of thumb for exfoliants is, if you're not sure or are worried about it, you don't need it.
