Yeah even if you try to walk them through on a claim they just made and it's logical end they'll just pull out some contradictory 'common knowledge' or 'fact' that stands counter to their original claim, but somehow you're the weird one for still pointing that helps their case even less so.
That generation is the epitome of if you repeat something enough times then it becomes absolute truth to a sizeable portion of hearers.
