I beat the scenario in my own way, a little different from yours
>Send whole army to capture one base, be as efficient as possible, try to not lose many units, phalanguites focusing down elephants and infantry, companions actively meatshielding phalanguites, archers focusing down the Puru UU archer
>Take the southern base first, powerbuild the castle, then with the help of pause spread vills evenly to minimize worker building time
>Rush healing outposts tech, inmediately send a vill to the middle, have my army of phalanguites, archers and alexander patrolling near the middle gate under the healing aura of an outpost
>Take my surviving companions, add cavalry archers and make them a control group
>Send a scout cavalry to scout and reveal the areas infront of the enemy gathers, and aggressively foward outpost as possible without luring the defenders
>Send 17 vills into gold and wood, open primarely CAs
>Start outpost spamming the front of the city, less travel distance, have more time to react, footmen soldiers patrolling in the middle just in case
>Actively try to split armies in two before engaging, specially separating the elephants from their archers
>Cheese the traders (will demostrate next screenie)
>Actively roam the map with 60 units of horsemen, footmen in the middle, horsemen reserve in the east flank
>Outpost creep the entire map
>When capped, start spamming castles on the roads
>Chill and win
I DID pause A LOT, and althought I also saved a lot of times, I never reloaded the game
Honestly, going companions, CAs and aggressively roam with foward healing outposts is the winning strategy, cannot afford to be lax
