Never forget Charlene Downes.

In 2003 she was kidnapped, tortured, raped, murdered and her body chopped into kebab meat that was subsequently served to her friends and neighbours.

The two prime suspects - Iyad Albattikhi and Mohammed Reveshi - were tried but the jury failed to reach a verdict because the police were incompetent and barely transcribed all the recording evidence they collected. A re-trial was set, but the case collapsed once again due to police incompetence. The disciplinary backlash? Seven officers received amongst them one disciplinary meeting, one written warning and five words of advice. Oh and also the government paid the two suspects 250k each lol.
