I subscribe more to Bridget's Metanarrative than his actual story in game
Bridget started off as a weirdo. People back in 2002 thought a crossdressing dude was fucking weird and gross and perverse and I'm not gay there's no way I could like a man even if his penis is cute. Bridget was strange and abnormal, not a whole lot of other male crossdresser characters came out before Bridget so he was sort of an anomaly.
Now we're 20 years later and everyone's gotten used to traps and they've even carved out their own internet culture. Bridget is no longer a weirdo, he's just a normal trap along with the dozens of other traps being constantly fawned over. Bridget lost his abnormal status and just became a regular ass character. So, if you're A Man with a Vision, and you want your weird gender-related character to remain weird, what do you do? Obviously you make him into a girl. Now Bridget's fucking weird and gross and perverse and I'm not straight there's no way I could like a woman even if her penis is cute. Bridget got strange and abnormal again, but not in a particularly interesting way. There's tons of trans characters coming out now, so Bridget doesn't even have her own niche like he did back in 2002. And only time will tell if people start liking trans characters like how traps somehow got popular during the 2010's.
The trap lovers feel betrayed because Bridget is pretty much the whole reason why traps became popular in the first place, and becoming trans feels like a moot point since there's already plenty of representation there.
