The sad thing about mtg is that they don't try to create new archetypes or new cool mechanics, everything now is recycled shit and to make sales they have to powercreep the fuck out of things.
If they hadn't as many sets a year or actually thought of new standalone mechanics with synergy with older shit they wouldn't need to fuck things up constantly.

The new Warlord cards for exemple are really cool and some seems overpowered but in older formats they are just ok because the things that are meta in the older formats are consistent. Not that the new cards are unplayable but instead of lots of them becoming meta only a few see play right now, maybe in a few years the new packages become better but right now the 12 years worth of sets hold more value in the meta.

Going back to mtg, if wotc explored more for exemple the land and eggs(artifact) themes from MH1 then perhaps MH2 wouldn't need ragavans or evoke elementals to sell.
