I understand what you mean and it might have just been me wording it terribly, but it's mostly just making the player character not look like an A-posing model firing guns like a lot of mecha games do. Armored Core 6 AT LEAST also controls well.
some of it is good animation work but a lot can just be "don't make the player character feel sluggish" and have it's movements have weight, gravity AND momentum. I've seen a lot of mecha nerds say they like games with "weight" when in fact they just mean slower pace. Weight doesn't mean a game needs to be slow it just needs to feel impactful.
I mentioned monhun and that's a very good example of impactul, weighty movement that's still quite fast.

Helldivers 2 is also another game that has good weight, momentum and gameplay all at once.
Pic related is Nioh. I hate dark souls but Nioh has fast, weighty combat that is extremely stylish and satisfying to pull off when all the cylinders are firing. Mecha games rarely feel this satisfying.
Imagine taking something like those, but adding in cool explosive weapons, boosters, verticality, combinations of weapons and equipment, and more?

Because it COULD be a 3rd person action game that HAS distinguishing features over playing some regular dude because the mech can have boosters and equipment and cool weapons. Right now I feel like mecha games get stuck into some weird 4th place that is both worse than playing a good vehicle and a generic 3rd person man and it feels extremely unsatisfying.
