True oldfag here.
Been on this site since 2005. Take that how you may.
Majority of all the modern slop form the past 15 years have been catastrophically horrible.
The gaming really started declining circa 2006, especially after mobile-shit got big, consoles went online, and extra so when the woke shit started happening in the States.
I too have found myself enjoying mostly older games the past 20 or so years now. Some my old favorites from back in the day (RE1-3, SH1-3, FF7, Zelda:OoT-MM, DOOM...), some classics I missed when they were still new (SS2, Banjo-Kazooie, Parasite Eve...).
Quite many of them still hold up.
That being said, I've never had trouble finding something "new" to play and enjoy, every single passing year.
Recently got into Yakuza series with the Zero, and it's been a wild, exciting ride since then. Really got some Metal Gear vibes out of them.
Deep Rock Galactic ended up being the greatest co-op action game I'd ever played, and a source of endless fun with the boys.
I legit had no idea what to expect from Death Stranding, but once I picked it up, I ended up playing it for like a dozen hours a day, for a couple weeks.
Ultrakill and Serious Sam 3 ended up being the very remedy against the cancerous nu-Doom and Halo shit that have taken over the mainstream shooter market.
And then there's the good old modding scenes for many of these games, that keep pumping out endless waves of new content, every passing month.
