Armor of Agathys deserves an honorable mention if you're a Hexblade. It scales very well - a 5th-level slot grants 25 temporary hit points and deals 25 cold damage when hit by a melee attack. You can cast it as early as Warlock 9. Use Warding Bond or other forms of damage reduction to get even more mileage out of your buffer.
