Yeah that's fair, it might be tolerable but by no means comfortable. I don't often bother with doujinshi I know will be resold or uploaded later anyway anymore, but I still find so much stuff that picques my interest. A lot of 雑貨 circles that don't do online, corporate booths that give away stuff for cheap to promote themselves, 色紙 and other event limited goods, and one of a kind stuff like this miniature Remi portrait I managed to grab. Being able to see and talk to some of the circles, especially some of the less popular and niche ones is also fun.

If you feel nervous it's extremely easy to just stick to konbini and chain restaurants with self-serve while you get used to things and minimise interaction, but in general Tokyo and weeb-related businesses and events are pretty foreigner friendly. Honestly I don't explore that much, but in the several years I've been to Japan I have not once seen a Japanese-only anything (not saying they don't exist, but I'd suspect their frequency is exagerated).
