I’ve played NEO about 4 times already and I really don’t get this meme. The subject of Neku becomes relevant for about two days (Week 2 Day 1 and Week 2 Day 2, respectively) out of a full 24, and the main focus is kept on Rindo and his companions as they tackle the Game. Even when Neku eventually does come back, he mainly plays a supportive role to the rest of the party. Up to that point, he rarely if ever gets a mention due to the majority of the game’s focus being on the new cast.
Like the other guy said, Beat gets made fun off all the time but he’s so thick-headed that the insults just bounce off of him and his teammates and Uzuki/Kariya are just about the only ones who give him his due.
Hell, in Sho’s case, Rindo, Fret, and Nagi overly relying on him turned out to be a bad thing in the long run because the second he’s done with what he wants, he just ups and ditches them.
