Because they got brainwashed, that leaned on their own selfishness, to think that doing anything for any other man was spoiling him and he would not be independent and do things on their own if you helped him out in anyway...
This was an excuse to be cheap and save resources they can just easily and freely give to women in exchange for sex. And it lead men always making excuses to say NO to their fellow man when he is in need, but never apply these same crooked, half-baked rationale's to women, who men allow to be the laziest parasites.
