So whatever system they ran would be popularly fine as it was our political machinery that agreed to it (see James Forsyth). They thought this would secure party hegemony and they're very shocked that it didn't, and they're completely unapologetic (see Patel's Sun interview where she also doesn't throw Cummings or even Bojo under the bus).
And from what I Understand Singapore doesn't even have high random immigration, they tightly control who from where can come in for what reason and how long. Their ethnic balance is paramount, and their welfare culture I imagine is much smaller than ours. While the Tories created some godawful hybrid that does literally nothing. And they're still proud of it! They're annoyed that people actually have memories and eyes and they think they've done enough to persuade everyone to vote blue because Labour bad.
