I have said this before, and I will repeat it once again.
>Setting is Al-qadim (as part of forgotten realms, but that will be revealed only around end)
>Your city state is amidst a plague outbreak, and you are sent out by the third vizier of the throne to seek outa cure.
>This search is essentially a loop that will take you to the other end of the land of fate and back
>Your MC is essentially a caravan master
>But the path is not exactly linear. each oasis, city and nomad camp you can meet is it's own map with different quests that open new methods of advancement. using boats to travel coast, skipping through the hellish desert in the middle of the continent, alluring detours that can net you powerful treasures
>In addition of that, there is also another group of heroes that depart at same time as you do. They are much better prepared, famous and all too manipulated by the big bad Cyric, who is trying to insert himself into local myth.
>The themes of game (duty vs personal benefit, ruthless advance vs careful consideration) are communicated by speed. Choices of advance are usually fast vs slow. Fast means that you can return home before the other party and acquire golden ending - but it can leave you dangerously unprepared and underleveled. Slow allows you to gather powerful artifacts, riches and companions, but all that might make you too late to save anything of value. Morality is further complicated by the fact that access to additional detours and faster advance are often tied with compromising your morals.
I can post about MC origin state and companions after I sleep if people want to
