I'm just tired of gay characters as some kind of lesson or "bold move". They're not allowed to be people because writers are too busy trying to make a point or some dumb shit like that.

I would write them exactly the same, but there wouldn't be weird, nearly out of character moments where they act like assholes with little pushback and barely face the consequences.
The most obvious point is Amethyst's whole cunty self and shit like taunting the obviously emotionally damaged Greg with the form of his dead wife whom he still loves. And, as punishment, she just had to clean a fucking garage. I wouldn't have wrote that.
A big issue is Steven Universe trying to say characters are good just the way they are, but they're not good the way they are and could legitimately use character growth to stop being so self centered, but they don't get that. They just get validation. Steven's actually one of the worst characters for that.
