The City of Pasadena has filed a billion dollar lawsuit against UCLA, claiming the school is planning to break its contract to stay at the Rose Bowl until 2044 and instead play their home games at SoFi Stadium. Though still ten miles away from campus, SoFi is much easier to get to from Westwood than Pasadena. SoFi also has the modern amenities that make money on game day. The aging Rose Bowl has been cited by some recruits as being worse than their high school's stadium.
UCLA has yet to make a public statement about the lawsuit. The current lease agreement goes through 2044 and comes after Pasadena allocated millions for upgrades to the stadium. The city claims moving to SoFi would have a negative impact on Pasadena of over a billion dollars.
