I wonder if some of it it location based, because just going to woolies I'll usually see someone around my height. If you never seeing anyone over 6'4" you either don't leave the house or the population of your area might be a bit shorter overall.

That said, some things that might help a bit:
>sports
tall people are heavily over-represented in many sports. not just basketball, you find that in footy, rugby, swimming, triathlons, whatever. Its most obvious at the top but it happens at all levels, because at my height I could have shitty skills but still make a decent ruck. When I head to an AFL game, I see some fucking giants wandering around the stands and not just on the field.
If you pick the right team sport and get into it locally, odds are you'll be exposed to more tall people.

Young people trend taller. When I swing past a uni I'll usually see a bunch of people around my height. Not sure how old you are, but going to events popular with people that age wouldn't hurt.
>socioeconomics
If you're in an outer suburb and most people around you had meth-addicted parents and lived off hot chips and coke, they'll be a bit smaller on average. Might have more luck in some nicer bits of town.
>ethnicity
people of western european and slavic descent tend to be taller, so if you like only hobbies that are popular with asian twinks you probably wont be meeting many tall guys through them.

Nah, you objectively live in a country with a lot of tall people, more than the average height would suggest. I was saying how you'd find the highest concentration, but we're everywhere.

These are probably what make it harder, both of those groups are more likely to have a set social group. My group of friends hasn't changed much since I was 30, and anybody new I meet is either through work or through friends (who they probably met at work). It can be tough to get a foot in the door there.
you could do worse than work in a nerdy field, an engineering firm with a few hundred autistic nerds is going to have at least a few people that fit what you're looking for.
