Not the hero's we deserve
But the hero's we need
In preparation for the /lm24/ asking for some updates and ideas for the /lm24/-Bingo. Last 5 years I did it on a whim just before the race.

>>149096057that reminds me, I updated my twitter banner
>>149096120I wish I was as cool as you.
I hate to exceed my post limit (3) per thread but I'm looking for a pic of Isolde Holderied in the Corolla, if anyone here has it it would make me very happy.
>>149096458>>149096121>>149096057What is an underrated rally car in terms of looks or how cool it was? You hear about the Evo, Impreza, Audi Quattro and a few Lanca's to name a few but what cars do you think are underrated as time goes on?
>>149096616kots will give a better answer as soon as he wakes up, but there is more than one. Personally the Escort seems prettier to me the more time passes, it also looked good with any livery and although it was not very successful in the world championship, for a long time it was very popular in the national championships in its different homologations with good results. I don't know if it had any special technical aspect (I'm sure it did but I don't have that knowledge) but at some point in 1997 Ford announced a lack of power in its engines that caused it to lose up to half a second per kilometer in some sections. Maybe that's why his only victories were in Greece and Indonesia. Btw there was a small scandal in Indonesia '96 because someone accused Sainz of receiving external help and his disqualification was even announced but there was a protest and apparently pics to prove otherwise, in the end he was only fined
>>149096616the Renault 5 Turbo. good on tarmac, was crippled in gravel rallies due to RWD. but it was used later by privateers in rallycross with an AWD swap. Renault should have AWD swapped it for WRC.

>>149097588>>149096616For me it is the Hyundai Accent WRC. The original (pic rel) being the best looking (and meanest/most aggressive) in that lineage
It was a total shitbox like it's road car variant
>>149097783i wouldnt say the R5 being underrated as it has a pretty big cult (deservedly) around it
>>149096616>>149097913fine, then the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth.
>dominated Group A touring car racing (until the AWD Nissan Skyline GT-R came along)>was also pressed into service as a RWD rally car because after FIA banned the Group B AWD RS200, Ford didn't have anything better ready yet for Group A rally>replaced by the AWD Escort RS Cosworth
Good news: The Worldwide Technology Raceway tent at IMS gave me free GA tickets to the Indycar Race on Sunday.
Bad news: I spent too much money between the IMS trip and other life events to afford to go so soon.
Good news: A coworker is taking the tickets and her boyfriend to the race on Sunday.
I'm genuinely happy those tickets are being used, those two aren't Indycar fans, but her boyfriend follows some dirt track stuff and Slinger, as well as Nascar. He was super pumped and now they're both excited, apparently they haven't had a day trip in ages.
>no the Sierra is too popular
the Hyundai Accent was in Gran Turismo (4) years before the Ford Sierra (GT7) was
>>149098041the race is scheduled for 8pm ET on a Sunday. this will be an experiment on if a shit time for fans attending the race will be made up by the TV ratings.
>>149098083>why is it a shit time?it's a Sunday, people gotta work Monday morning. the only silver lining for fan attending is it's at night so it won't be hot as fuck sitting in the grandstands.
>Bommarito Automotive Group 500
>500
>kilometers
what is this bullshit, this is America!
>>149098083Which I made very plain when I offered the tickets, but they're up for the challenge. It'll be a nearly 6 hour drive for them. I think the attendance this year will take a small hit, but they have to be expecting that given that its still on a Sunday.
>>149098103I imagine that next year the race will be scheduled for Saturday night regardless of the attendance this year. I'm cautiously optimistic for the TV ratings, Sunday night is probably the best night of the week as everyone is trapped at home for work tomorrow with very little to do but relax at that hour, might as well catch some vrooms.
>>149098133Holding a 500 mile race on a 1.5 mile oval should be considered sacrilege. TMS maybe excepted, but they can fuck right off anymore.
>>149097913well the same thing happens with the Escort, it is even more iconic. But look how pretty it is
>>149098140Wisconsinfag here. maybe someday I will be able to do the Double Duty, go to IndyCar at Road America and go to IndyCar at the Milwaukee Mile in the same year. but Road America is higher priority. and other than Milwaukee I have no interest in attending any oval races except the Indianapolis 500.
>>149098196Hello fellow Wisconsinfag, I hope you're able to be in a position to do both soon, too. They're both excellent tracks in their own way and well worth the time and expense. (Pretty sure we've discussed this a time or two).
The 500 really is everything they say, and definitely worth attending, if not yearly, then at least once in your lifetime. Having said that, I love seeing these cars, and this style of racing, and I'd like to see them at as many venues as I can. I'll travel for a race, though a ten hour drive would be nearing my limit.
My dream retirement would be a cabin up north with land to shoot a 1000 yards, and an RV to travel to all of the races and canp with maxcomfy.
>>149098224been to Road America a bunch of times but I can't afford it this year ;_;
>>149097588The biggest quirk about the Escort is that the RS was actually a full Sierra underneath
>>149096616Early Mk1 Focus for me
Clean lines with subtle changes to an already handsome car, great liveries, McRae at the wheel, road car was a major turning point for euro Ford
>>149097907and it some deserves respect for being the cheapest shitbox they turned into a modern WRC car

I'd go if I could you fuckers
>>149098240I'm sorry fren, on the bright side, you'll actually know what happens during the race this year and you'll be able to hang out in /indy/.
>>149098337yeah it sucks not being there but I'm kind of interested to see how Fox covers IndyCar at Road America. will there be any new camera angles?
>scheduling a race against the Indy 500
>unironically
did not expect that
>>149098254>and it some deserves respect for being the cheapest shitbox they turned into a modern WRC caryou must be 100 percent right on this one kek
>>149098371Formula 1 doesn't give a shit about anyone else's schedule. look at this weekend, they scheduled the Canadian GP against the 24 Hours of Le Mans. and the THREE 24 hour races (Le Mans, Nurburgring, Spa) all within days of each other? it's because of F1.
>tl;dr: Formula 1 is the enemy of all other motor racing series
>>149098409>they scheduled the Canadian GP against the 24 Hours of Le Mansthe race in Canada starts four hours after Le Mans ends
>>149098409are you complete retard ? the Canadian GP starts way after the finish of LM24
>>149098409They do it intentionally for two reasons. To steal precious viewers.
To prevent F1 drivers from being involved in other series. F1 were filthy about Alonso and his indy500 race.
>>149098371the only series that wants to kill IndyCar harder than F1 does is NASCAR.
>>149098436>>149098440gotta sleep sometime (if you are a fag that watches F1 without realizing the damage they do to every other series)
>>149098443>F1 were filthy about Alonso and his indy500 race.it goes back longer than that, they've been seething ever since Emerson Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansell joined CART.
>>149098467Oh yeah for sure. I only bring up Alonso because it's really the only recent occurrence....well kinda recent.
It's so stupid. F1 snobbery, meanwhile it should be the rising tide raising all ships.
Guess it also dramatically lowered the value for the Indy 500 TV rights abroad.
Thinking about the UK where the race runs on Sky's adfree uninterrupted main vrooms-channel with Tom Gaymore, but now that's unavailable and they have to move it to their Sports Mix niche shit and split the viewership with, or rather completely surrender it to, the Canada race. no es bueno.
Roger, do something.
>>149098485>meanwhile it should be the rising tide raising all ships.but our ship should rise higher, t. F1
>>149098501I don't think Roger fully understood what he was getting into when he bought IndyCar and IMS. he already owned Team Penske and Ilmor, and now he bit off more than he could chew. he's got his hands in too many pies. the series, a team in the series, an engine manufacturer in the series, the eponymous track of the series.
>you now remember when Roger Penske attempted to buy Saturn from GM during their bankruptcy
if things went a bit differently we could be talking about Ilmor-Saturn engines instead of Ilmor-Chevrolet engines right now.

>>149098467> F1 were filthy about Alonso and his indy500 race.> it goes back longer than that, they've been seething ever since Emerson Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansell joined CART.Source: my ass
The simple reason for the current scheduling conflict is money. FOM wants more races for more revenue, Teams want their summer and winter shutdowns to save money, and that means a very tight calendar remains with the shipping times factored in (interesting fun fact: shipping a lot of shit around the world is more time consuming than shipping around a single country in trucks)
>>149098455you can sleep while the 3 hours of FCY hits when a single drop of rain lands on the track
Did it last year, it was comfy
The only ones seething about not being able to sleep between the 2 wont watch f1 anyways
>>149098666>>149098656fingers crossed that the forecasts change for the bettter
have very fast raris going at incredible hihg speed as sacrifice
>>149098691oh for sure. just saying that having a race on an oval (and thus with no possibility of rain tires) on a Sunday night is risky and I don't know how Fox talked IndyCar into it.
>>149096616I always loved the 323 gt-r with the bulky front bumper
>>149098009>replaced by the AWD Escort RS Cosworthit was replaced by the sierra sapphire rs cosworth which is another good shout for an underrated rally car

The Fiat 131 Abarth had fantastic suspension for its time. It won three WRC constructors' championships thanks to its superior handling, as the engine was frankly a bit shit.
>>149096616Pic rel but i'm an opel fangay
>>149099101The Ascona B 400 is also an impeccably cool car. Walter Rรถhrl won the 1982 WDC with it, when the Quattro was already around. Not that anyone cared about the WDC at the time though.

>>149089744Absolutely based. Just a terrible shame that they are near the bottom in class.
Doesn't seem likely that everyone else will fuck up, letting Aston do a Mazda 1991 victory (or podium).
>>149099256mazda at least had a competitive advantage and was podium material
The aston has no whatsoever unless they were sandbagging for the whole time
>>149099232100 percent, always hated the facelift faggy headlights
>>149099380they were podium material only because other teams switched back to their older spec turbo gr.c cars for le mans in 1991 and got handed a 100kg minimum weight increase while somehow the mazda could stay at its original weight
>F1 ruining one of the most fun days on the calendar
I am actually pretty mad about moving Monaco off Indy 500 day. I fucking hate liberty media and the FIA.
>>149099380I adore the 787B but for all intents and purposes they were handed a loophole on a silver platter. Piston-engined Group C cars were slapped with a 100 kilo ballast in 1991 while the Mazdas were exempt because they successfully convinced FISA that the 787B was so shit that they wouldn't be competitive even with a 100kg advantage.
And then the Mercs and Jags proceeded to shit the bed, and whaddya know.
>only 3 good races this year (gateway, milwaukee and nashville)
>rain
F1, nascar and now God are trying to kill our little open wheel series
>>149092740Year another category going to a turbo 4 cylinder power plant.
Sad.
You will be missed.
>>149093823They won't as long as it's the top series in ELMS. It's also a good way for teams to get prototype experience before moving to an LMDh car.
>>149095590I don't know, but the are doing the same thing for Red Bull right now.
>>149099736I'm all for LPM2.
I'm glad it's non in WEC but I like seeing them race. You need mid tier prototype categories to bring drivers up through the ranks.
>>149099750yep, without lmp2 and 3 the ladder would be incomplete
Should I paypig 17โฌ for a LMU key?
TFW will have to pirate a stream during the 24.
>>149100070the fiawec tv pass is like 16GBP
eurosport player is even cheaper
>>149100070I'm relying on this as my backup if the WEC site shits the bed.
>>149098702Moving to Saturday probably wasn't doable so late, but moving the time presents an acceptable compromise, even with the risk. I do believe that next year they'll schedule it for Saturday, unless the ratings are absolutely bonkers, then maybe the chance to delay the race will be worth it. As a spectator, I generally take the next day off, especially if I have to travel.
>>149097907>Or we will get a new oneThere was a Hungarian anon who posted about his dating experiences that seemed to like the pussy wagon. I remember him posting for a Burger King one Spa weekend, too I think, but maybe I am confusing two different people.
I hope he got a QT 3.14 GF and that's why he hasn't posted about that lately.
>>149098041Based, sounds like you just might have made an IndyCar fan or two.
>>149098133Kek, it not even 500 km, it's 523.037 km.
>>149098103>>149098165NASCAR at Nashville had really good attendance and it was a late race. Thankfully, I went to sleep after stage one because it looked pretty boring from the extended highlights.
>>149098337>>149098352If you bring an FM radio with ear buds and over the ear hearing protection, you can listen to the race at Road America on 87.9 FM. You can do this at most tracks, but some you might need a HAM radio for. A $20 Beofang will work.
I can not stress how much this improves the experience.
>>149093823You mean all of it could be GT3s,. Hypermeme and LMPiss Deuce are just the factory and privateer prototypes which are separate classes solely because some corporate executive with $100m to his name needs his own special boy trophy to be told how great he is on his weekends.
> WRC27 takes shape as regulations open to huge variety of bodywork designs
The World Council today approved one of the final pieces of the compelling puzzle that is coming together to mark the start of a brand-new era for the FIA World Rally Championship from 2027.
The WRC27 ruleset, given the green light by the World Council in December 2024, has been undergoing its final refinements and updates over the past six months, and today the confirmation of the reference volumes for bodywork cements the commitment set out by the FIA to put flexibility at the core of these regulations.
To achieve this, the rules define a zone in which all of the bodywork panels must be located, but within this volume, manufacturers and constructors have the freedom to scale and integrate almost any design.
This crucial feature of the regulations means that, without effecting performance, cars ranging from saloons to hatchbacks, cross-overs and completely bespoke designs could be entered over the ten-year regulation cycle through to 2037.
Well that and of course we wouldn't want to risk the poor oppressed corporations suffering the injury of being beaten by a car that doesn't have the brand of another trillion dollar globohomo on it.
>>149101070desu the external volume seems to be a bit small but maybe the graphics is shit (wouldnt be the first time)

Holy fuck this one genuinely took a while to make but I hope you guys like it
I hope this site doesn't compress it all to shit as well. If it does, well, I'll probably upload it somewhere and link it here
The Canadian GP scheduling has nothing to do with the 500 and is entirely a consequence of all the Burgerstanian F1 races being in the south where they can't reasonably be run during the summer so your options are either wasting a silly amount of resources flying back for a single Canadian race or fucked up dates.
Basically May 3 is the latest you could run Miami without being a health hazard and May 24 is the earliest you could run Montreal without a possibility of getting snowed on. Like May 17 went down to 1 degree above freezing in 2023. It's actually a pretty shit date to saddle them with even, while it could be hot it's also very possible they end up racing in single digit temperatures.
Miami GP runs 4pm local time so the shidding and farding about TV overlap can wait until they actually announce that.
>>149098501IndyCar's overseas TV rights are effectively worthless anyways. Admittedly the Indy 500 has less value here because of getting American networks on cable but even in Canada they almost have to give the damn things away even though it includes the Toronto Indy, and the only reason even F1 rights used to be worth anything outside of Europe before Netflix was including the local race. (ie. the Canadian GP in many years had more promotion on TSN/CTV than the entire rest of the season)
>>149098576>if things went a bit differently we could be talking about Ilmor-Saturn engines instead of Ilmor-Chevrolet engines right now.Too based for this gay earth, although GM had already ruined everything that made Saturn cool by that point.

Next year is the earliest possible date for the 500 by the way so it likely won't even happen in 2027 or most other years.
Sรฉbastien Bourdais has been racing at Le Mans since 1999
Anyways remember that there's a bunch of guys that aren't racing at Le Mans this year because they're stuck in some crime ridden shithole on the Illinois border to race in front of half empty grandstands instead. I don't think there's even been an attempt at an excuse for it either, I mean the thing got rescheduled to a different TV start time anyways.

I wouldn't have been shocked if NASCAR forced IMSA to schedule a race this weekend (though they don't have as much power over IMSA teams/drivers as they do in Cup, so they definitely would have lost that battle)

>โLooking at pure [top speed] numbers, itโs difficult to draw conclusions,โ Kubica told Sportscar365. โItโs the way you get there that makes the biggest difference.>I am pretty happy with what I felt in the car,โ Kubica said. โIf this will translate into the start of the race on Saturday, I am not sure. >The Polish ex-Formula 1 driver set the fastest time in the opening session of the test, and followed up with the third-fastest time in the afternoon, ending up 0.656 seconds shy of the benchmark established by Toyota driver Brendon Hartley.>Ferrariโs top representative was the factory No. 51 car in which James Calado was second-fastest, 0.531 seconds behind the No. 8 Toyota in the afternoon session. Those gaps are pretty fucking huge, even on a track as long as le Sarth, but I also don't think the engineers on any of the teams have the cars dialed all the way up.
I agree with Kubica that the LMDh feild is more competitive this year and I wouldn't be surprised if a Porsche or BMW sneaks onto the podium, but I really do think this is Ferrari's/Toyota's race to lose.

> TOYOTA GAZOO Racing unveils liquid hydrogen-fueled "GR LH2 Racing Concept" at Le Mans
- TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has unveiled the GR LH2 Racing Concept, a liquid hydrogen (LH2) fueled test car to advance the development of hydrogen technology in motorsports. It made its public debut at the Circuit de la Sarthe where it is being exhibited at the H2 Village, organized by the Automobile Club de lโOuest, during the 93rd Le Mans 24 Hours (11-15 June).
- It is based on the GR010 HYBRID Hypercar which currently participates in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Through future track testing, the GR LH2 Racing Concept will support Toyotaโs continuous development of hydrogen technology and infrastructure, as well as helping build relationships to expand the possibilities of hydrogen through the challenge of motorsports.

Almost as annoying as that fucking faggot 15 minute timer, before the ten day shut-down.
>>149118106It's not just in Le Mans, if you watch the rest of the MLMC races it's always a long string of safety cars or red flags with hardly any racing in between.
The problem is that the average skill level is very low, but the championship still awards a LM24 entry, so you get a really bad mix of total amateurs vs hyper combative drivers fighting for a spot in the big race the following year. It's an overall bad championship and it has always been like that.
I don't know how you could solve this problem, but at some point someone has to step in and draw a line on how bad your driving can be for such a "high profile" championship. After all, it's a full season ELMS side event and they get to race here during the 24h week so it's not like some crappy local cup race that nobody watches.
>>149118117I'm a filthy phoneposter and I'm using an app to post here. It was fine until yesterday, I could post multiple times with no timer in between until I switched network or picked up a WiFi. Dave Sapienza has been denied an entry for the Modified Tour at Riverhead. I hadn't heard about this incident but it certainly sounds like something he would do.
>The original issue between Sapienza and Riverhead management began on April 27, 2024. Sapienza was attending an open practice that day at Riverhead. During the practice an official made a mistake in letting cars onto the track leading to Sapienza losing out on his round of practice.
>Sapienza exacerbated the issue on Sept. 14, 2024 when Riverhead was hosting the NASCAR Modified Tour Eddie Partridge 256. During the running of that event, Sapienza parked an aerial lift bucket on property adjacent to the Riverhead Raceway property. The bucket lift could be seen by those on the property at Riverhead for the event. The bucket had a cutout figure of Sapienza in it and displayed various signs through the night, some disparaging of track management.
