I don't think you truly grasp how retarded the Mav's are so I'll spell it out for you. AD is currently 32, Klay is 35 and Kyrie is 33 years old. The Mav's traded Luka despite making the finals last year and are now in rebuild mode but advertising to low IQ fans that they are still trying to compete for a championship.

With Kyrie out for most of next season, they won't be making the playoffs. That means that Cooper Flagg's rookie season will be playing behind an injury prone AD and a 36 year old Klay. By the time that AD, Kyrie, Klay and Flagg all play a healthy season together AD, Klay and Kyrie will be 34, 37 and 35 years old respectively and will probably only make the play-in game before trading those old washed bums for roleplayers and picks. There is no long term strategy to build around Flagg as he won't have a proper young 2nd or 3rd option on the same timelines as him. Mav's are a complete joke.

Flagg will be good and you'd be stupid to think otherwise but he will never be Luka-tier (top 3 in the NBA). Luka as a 19 year old in the NBA against NBA talent averaged 22, 8 and 5. Cooper couldn't even average that at Duke against college players, albeit a year younger. Cooper may be a more complete player when you take into account his defense but he has absolutely nowhere near the gravity Luka has as an offense force.

With that said, let's also dispel some of the rumors that Doncic is an f-tier defender. Sure in the regular season he slacks but in the playoffs when he's locked in he is a straight up GOOD on-ball defender bordering on GREAT. Problem is lack of regular effort on that end but he absolutely has the skills to become an All-NBA defender, unironically. Check this video if you think otherwise, keeping in mind he was basically playing on one leg throughout last years playoffs.
