We're deep into another sensational French stage race and it's time for another /WORLD TOUR WINE/ !!

Today's stage appears to be the ONLY stage of the year that goes through Burgundy. This is frankly a great injustice and likely a personal slight against the /WTW/ offices. I considered a bottle of Fleurie (which was also on today's stage) but decided to honor The Greatest Wine Region on Earth (tm) with a bottle of white Burgundy from Macon. While the Macconais does not have the hype of the more famous wines from the Cote d'Or to the north, there is plenty of sensational white Burgundy made here for often a much more reasonable price than the big boys from the Cote de Beaune.

Guffens-Heynen "1er Jus de Chavigne' Macon-Pierreclos ($160)

Jean-Marie Guffens, also known as "The Mad Belgian", has been termed l'enfant terrible du les Maconnais by Jancis Robinson. Since 1980, he has been on a mission to prove that the Maconnais can make wines that stand up to their big brothers in the north. Iconoclastic, brusque, and impish, Jean-Marie favors highly concentrated wines utilizing late harvests, but then favoring the very first juice that is pressed off the grapes ("1er Jus") which tends to be more acidic and lively. This leads to a balanced wine that has both body/depth as well as acidity.

This pours a soft pale gold, like late afternoon sun. The nose is pure Macon - flinty minerality, wax, soft stone fruit, but there is an intriguing spice and depth, almost like an aged tequila. The palate is insane -- at first, it feels soft, restrained. Pure fruit, honey, wax, pastry. Then a building chorus of gunsmoke minerality and palate-tingling acidity. It lingers. It vibrates in the mouth.

Wowza. Another banger.

>Dumoulin was commended for waiting for his closest rival Quintana when he crashed on a descent during stage 15, but the courtesy wasn't reciprocated as Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha), Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r La Mondiale) along with Quintana and Nibali pushed on up the climb while Dumoulin stripped off.

>It's courtesy for the peloton to slow in normal circumstances when the race leader decides to take a natural break on the roadside, but that usually happens early on in the day and with more than one rider taking the opportunity.

>The incident will continue to polarise the debate about whether riders should wait for the competitors or not. Cycling is largely about tradition, and a Grand Tour leader's jersey would in the past command enough respect for overall contenders to wait for the race leader before going mano a mano.

>But that tradition appears to be slipping under the weight of the 'win-at-all-costs' aspect of modern sport. It is a race after all, but the idea of waiting will be continue to be a hot topic as it has for many years already.

Interesting, so the race leader had to stop to take a shit and the other riders didn't slow down for him. Thanks I guess

The new UCI rules are an absolute disaster. The 32cm between the narrowest part of the shifters basically means that all <40cm handlebars are now banned. Utterly ridiculous, especially since anyone who has actually used narrower handlebars knows that they are just as easy to handle in the bunch as wider ones, But this is the worst for smaller riders and women with <40cm shoulder widths who now have to sacrifice their ergonomics and comfort.
Also, the worth of my TooT bars basically plummeted to zero. Have to change the bars on my Quick pro as well for next season. Thanks UCI I guess, I feel much safer now.

Nope, with the ruling of 32cm between the shifters, this essentially means that even 38cm is too narrow. I have 38cm c-c on my commuter. They measure 30cm between the shifters, so according to the UCI these are dangerous and now banned. And believe me, they feel stupidly wide after being used to <34cm. Can't imagine how bad going back to 40s or 42s will feel next season.

>Breathing Sensors Used by Visma-Lease a Bike Approved by UCI – A New Game-Changer for the Tour de France?

Breathing – or “ventilation” – sensors will provide the team of Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert a powerful new metric for training and racing.

“A reliable, accurate ventilation sensor could be as big a breakthrough as the first heart rate monitor was in the 70s,” Tymewear co-founder and CEO Arnar Larusson recently told Velo. “It could even be bigger, even more transformational.”

The V-LAB lesson in ventilation starts now.

Heijboer told Velo that we can expect to see those distinctive breath sensor bulges beneath the jerseys of Vingegaard, Van Aert, Matteo Jorgenson, and Sepp Kuss as soon as the Tour’s grand départ.

Jonas dropping pogacar on the 3% climb was very interesting and out of character. I think that shows clear intent. Stages with hills are more capable of tactic based attacks. How are these rules even enforced on your level of racing? And i will buy the toot bar from you if you want. I give zero fucks about the UCI.
How is the Quick Pro riding btw, still thinking of getting one too. And what bars did you use on that?

Regarding the UCI rules it seems like the big players, Specialized, Cervelo etc had a big hand in this. The brand new Cervelo wheels seem to mysteriously go up to the very limit of the new rules. Even the Factor prototype fork may just be inside the new rules. And Specialized and Cervelo etc are notoriously lacking in creating narrower handlebars.

I don't know yet how they will be enforced but for example in the TT races here they have a rig that shows if the extensions are even a centimeter too high relative to the armrests etc. If/when the UCI clarifies the handlebar regs I guess they will just make a wooden block that is 32cm wide, and if it fits between the bars you're good to go. I guess they will enforce that on every rider at least in the nationals. Here the organizer boomers take UCI stuff very seriously.
>TooT
Nice, good to hear that. I will most likely put it up on buycycle when I have disassembled my bike sometime this summer.

It's truly excellent, very responsive, light and feels fast. The ride quality isn't harsh in my opinion, just stiff in the right places for sprinting. Best bike I've ridden, feels nicer than my S-works SL7. And I love the paintjob so that adds at least 20W, haha.
Also agreed on the UCI rules, feels to me that Specialized doesn't do any narrow bars, are sore about that, and wanted to fuck everybody over.

Clearly we can see from their looks that fish was on the absolute limit on the climb, trying to gain every second possible, while Pogacar wasn't, just controlling his effort constantly. So how much faster do you think he could've ridden that climb? 10-15 seconds maybe?

Maybe not the absolute death face fish has, but still he has had a more pained look many times. I'm just wondering if maintaining that gap to his threshold actually loses him much time, if at all.

Looks can deceive. Just think about Roubaix earlier this season. In the final when chasing each other both MvdP & Pogi were at their absolute limits. All they could do was try and maintain some sort of tempo. I remember MvdP saying to his ds. "I've nothing left". But did either of them have pain faces? Not that I remember.
