Big news is Edmonton is about to be a talking point again as the new owner has removed all traces of Elks wordmark from their jerseys this season, and will likely re-rename the team back to Eskimos. Attendance is a serious problem here and the upper bowl of the stadium is closed indefinitely. Stadium seats 66,000, we are lucky to get 8k a game.

Elks merch was put on clearance in August of last year. There were hundreds if not thousands of of these unsold cups at each 7-Eleven in our city.

There hasn't been any indication when they'll formally announce a return to Eskimos but the writing is on the wall.

In other CFL news, some Toronto players are on a 90k/yr salary and can't afford rent, taking to Reddit to ask for help.

This tracks with what I've heard through the grapevine. One of the guys I played football with in HS briefly made the CFL as a DB/special teams guy (drafted in 2015, won a grey cup in 2019 with winnipeg while on IR). They do not live a life of luxury and it's more akin to going away to college while your parents occasionally send you money for treats.

The /pol/ memes about Canada being flooded with jeets is 100% true and Toronto is ground zero, which has driven up rent prices. Toronto used to be a genuine vacation destination in the early 2000's (think new york or chicago, but friendlier and very cheap to travel to), but has now devolved into ethnic slop and gang activity in its' suburbs as all the different minorities and castes clash over homeland nonsense and drug trading.

Here out west we're not immune to it either, it's just concentrated to specific neighbourhoods. Millwoods in Edmonton turned into brown town during my childhood. It started around 2008-2010. Millwoods it was very easy to just ride your bike around and see like 5 cars parked in front of a house at all hours, or a distinct curry smell in the evenings. Something interesting to think about for the UFL. Is the best coach the one that wins the most or the one that prepares his guys to get an NFL gig the best? In the Championship game we saw two college style RPO heavy offenses that played to their QB's strengths, in the CCG's though we saw those offenses go up against more traditional west coast style offenses that translate better to the NFL. Obviously Holtz and Becht lost, and lost bad, but are they doing better in preparing their QB's and WR's to go up a level or should their focus be on "Win no matter what"?

No, they essentially release them from their contracts with a bit saying "If you come back you'll still be assigned to the same team" I believe. The best thing they can get is proof to other players that it's a viable thing. What would be nicer is if it got to the point where it was a fallback rather than a hail mary, like a richer CFL.

The way I see it is they gain nothing by trying to keep these guys, not at this point at least. None of them are so good that the NFL will buy them out, they're camp invites, end of roster guys at best. So if they try to hold on to them they'll just piss the players off because it's keeping them away from a potentially massive payday for little to no gain.
