Oilers fucked themselves by resigning Henrique rather than Holloway. Trading for a goalie during the deadline probably would have helped as well.

I had thought for a bit that maybe the Oilers had more oompf than the Panthers, but they sucked off the refs and the whistles were shoved up their asses all series. Notice how the only time the Panthers lost the cup was when the refs called everything against them in the Vegas series.

Oilers also just looked gassed after game 3. It's possible Panthers were playing roided up, juiced to the gills, especially after the Ekblad suspension.

Oilers could be a contender next year, but they need a consistent goaltender (not Skinner or Pickard), they need meaner, bigger, and more energetic bottom 6 forwards (no henrique, janmark, frederic or kane), and more assertive wingers. Nuge and Hyman should honestly be moved. Defense is okay, but if Bouchard wants over 7 mil, let him walk. Ekholm also might only have a few useful years left as a defenseman. Oilers also desperately need a physical, shutdown d-man that can eat minutes.

How you go about addressing all this as a GM, I haven't the faintest.
