Why did the club world cup fail?
Why does no one care about this?
The European world cup qualifiers in september are going to generate more fan engagement than this international tournmanent that so few people cared about that they had to make it free to watch.
I have to admit that I didn't have high hopes for this in the first place but this goes beyond what most people expected, it is utterly irrelevant
Yanks + high ticket prices
>too expensive to attend
>hosted in the US (far away from nearly every fanbase in the tournament)
>zero rivalry between teams playing
>zero familiarity with the clubs in the tournament
>selected teams were chosen due to brand recognition
They're airing this for free on Youtube in my country and no one cares. High school level baseball got more views than the CWC
they should have played this game in LA, not atlanta
Club football just does not equal international football, for a start.
I'm a Hull City supporter, why the fuck would I care about Chelsea playing LAFC for example? I barely care about Chelsea playing Crystal Palace in the season.
Europeans are just not arsed after the end of a long season. Meanwhile, no disrespect to our South American friends who are all over this as it's an opportunity to show you can rival European teams, but most of you are too poor to actually attend a tournament like this, especially when it's for the smaller fanbase of a club compared to the national fanbase of your national clubs.
But I'll watch a whole international tournament, not just the games involving England. Whether that is the case for the upcoming abomination of a 48-team World Cup I don't know any more. I'm tired Wobbie.
>Chelsea vs LA
>Play the game in Atlanta, Georgia
Where the fuck were all the locals?
who cares? it's more comfy football and half-time slagposting in the summer. Do you really want to sell me the idea that you care about millionaires risking their acls when they earn in three weeks more that I make in a lifetime? Fuck off
Prices are insane. I would go to several games at Audi Field but I'm not paying 300 bucks to watch a washed Juventus play a bunch of Arabian nobodies.
>>149286950I would rather be out hiking and going on holidays, Javier
>>149286904this, plus Iโll add in:
>hosted all over the country>weather is starting to get hotter for outdoor matches>ICE raids donโt discriminate and will take tourists>middle of week matches>players are exhausted from regular season
>>149286965then pick a different job. You job as a footballer is to be run into the ground until you vomit or accept to get paid way less. You can't pick to get paid ungodly ammount of money and expect to pick whenever you want to work.
>Decent Crowd in theory
>In the Deep South, the region with the least developed Football Culture
>At 3 PM Local time on a Monday
>MLS Team from across the country because took other team's spot
>Chelsea team full of rising but not yet established stars playing a good strategy against a fairly new non-local MLS team
Where in any way is this theoretically a good attendance match? People have work, it's still the last week of school in most of America so it's really not easy to take the kids. Atlanta isn't exactly a place that's on anyone's bucket list.
Had they hosted the game in LA, had they played the game at 8 local time, had they had the initial matchup it would have looked a lot better. But there are no LAFC Lifelongs, Atlanta isn't exactly a hub of American Soccer Culture and while it's a great city everyone in America should visit beyond a Delta transfer, unless you're really into Black American culture, railroad history, Olympic history or 21st century Media culture. And while there are a lot of people who like those things it's definitely more of a niche tourist city compared to New York, San Francisco, LA, Boston and Miami which are more broad in their appeal.
>>149286954fair enough tee bee ache
>>149286844 (OP)It's because FIFA and the organizers went full retard with it. The 4 biggest mistakes I can identify:
1. Fucking over fans and actually keeping them at home with inflated "this is a WC/Euro/Libertadores" prices on everything Tickets, Hotel prices, travel costs ... It's like they don't want them to be there
2. Spreading the event over the entire US, yeah this is a mess
3. 12:00/15:00 local kick-off times like moving LAFC games to fucking Atlanta and start them at 15:00 (12:00 in LA) local because muh Euro TV ratings
4. All of the above for glorified friendlies
It's all about streaming these days, grandpa.
all the reasons anons have posted above are true but also the next week or so is gonna be historic or near historic levels of humidity for most of the country
i live a few miles away from one of the stadiums thats hosting, and ignoring the fact that the teams involved near me are literal whos for the most part, and the tickets are ridiculously expensive, and the games are either during the work day or at like 9pm on a weekday, i'm not going to a game in this weather. too sweaty
It's a tournament for thirdies. Hence the inclusion of various random clubs in the hopes of appealing to thirdies. I assume the thirdie audience is happy with this tournament.
>>149286929I enjoy watching some footie when I get back home from work even if my team is not playing.
>>149287042I'm dreading next week's heat wave
>>149286844 (OP)1 - it's still the group stage c'mon
2 - the US are not a cheap or easy place to reach and only five clubs are from the US or a neighbouring country. Everyone else has to fly in from pretty far
2bis - for SOME reason, Seattle and Miami are staying in their regular training grounds and will play some if not all their games at home but LAFC is based in Georgia because ?????
3 - ticket prices
4 - the competition is stupidly spread out, that's going to deter some who might have considered doing a full trip and attend a bunch of games regardless of who is playing. Transportation time and costs if you want to do this would increase the total cost a lot
5 - they picked an enormous arena for this game and it's distant from LA too. Attendance would probably have been better if they had played in the Rose Bowl. Honestly, they probably shouldn't be using these 60k+ capacity stadiums for the group stage, they're going to be empty no matter what
>>149286844 (OP)>the72 we love the eflfunny that these faggots never mention the sold out games or the fact that the average attendance is higher than the championship has ever had
>>149286965who's stopping you?
>>149286844 (OP)Good teams have good attendence.
Shit teams have poor attendence.
It's that simple.
>>149287165What game was sold out? Bayern was 21k in a 26k Stadium and Al Ahly vs Miami pulling 60k into a 64k Stadium after they handed out $4 tickets on a local Uni campus with free Mc Donalds vouchers (Seriously they should take note and just do that for most matches...)
>>149287165>a first of its kind global tournament held in NFL stadiums has higher average attendance than a league with games like Oxford United v Swansea CityFucking hell they were short on brains when they were putting you together weren't they lad.
You some kind of Yank or spastic anyway, I'd much rather go to a 20k sell-out than a half-full 75k seat bowl.
>>149287145>LAFC is based in Georgia becauseI blame Ted Turner and Tyler Perry for this one, when it comes to media jobs.
But really it's cause they took I think Leon's place in the tournament over owning two clubs and by the time it was decided the stages had already been decided and some tickets purchased so they can't exactly reshuffle everything so that LAFC is playing their games in LA.
>>149287145Lafc wasn't supposed to be in this tournament
They kicked a Mexican team out and lafc won a playoff

>>149287145>Honestly, they probably shouldn't be using these 60k+ capacity stadiums for the group stage, they're going to be empty no matter whatThis
I donโt even think you could fill some of these group stage these games up in NFL tier capacities in Europe without just making tickets dirt cheap or free
>ticket prices
What is FIFA thinking?
I remember in the 2014 WC, a ticket here was a completely unrealistic price for brazilians and even for tourists. It was embarrassing to see those empty stadiums during a World Cup and blaming us.
We only like sports where there's commercial breaks every 30 seconds and the teams are full of black men. Why is this so hard for the European mind to comprehend?
this is true but that account is reddit as fuck
>DAZN spends a billion bucks they got from Saudi Arabia for broadcasting rights

Why isn't the FBI arresting everyone involved there for money-laundering like they did 10 years ago?
Don't need to answer.
>>149287011>Spreading the event over the entire US, yeah this is a messWhy didn't they just stick to a couple of cities? Host it in goyfornia or Jew York.

The only stadium that truly looks grim is Atlanta that place should be disqualified from hosting the World Cup any other major city would have pulled much better crowds
do any of the teams even take it seriously?

>>149287005>In the Deep South, the region with the least developed Football Culturehuh? This just isn't true.
Atlanta has the highest MLS attendance. Charlotte is #2. Nashville also does well. MLS is stronger in the southeast than any other region.

>>149286904>too expensive to attendTrue. But Americans are used to extorsive pricing in tickets.
>hosted in the USTrue.
>zero rivalry between teams playingNot a problem. Continental competitions rarely have fierce international rivalries, and even at a local level that was never a problem. Arsenal doesn't have a special grudge against Ipswitch Town.
>zero familiarity with the clubs in the tournamentAnyone with an interest in football should be expected to know the UEFA and Conmebol sides. Maybe except for Salzburg, they are all well-known teams. Al Ahly and Al Hilal are well-known and domestically successful, while Urawa and Auckland are easy to recognise because they have been CWC regulars in the old format. That leaves us with very few literal whos, and even then you might know the Moroccans and the CONCACAF teams.
>selected teams were chosen due to brand recognitionThat's simply not true.
>>149289809to expand on this, a lot of these empty seats are tickets that were 'sold' to one of these premium group seat reselling services, you'd see all these seats as gone in the days leading up to the match if you tried to buy them

What did Qatar and Russia do to fill the stadiums up?
Feel like the simple solution is to give heavily subsidized or free tickets but we all know FIFA would never do that kek
>>149289935qatar were paying immigrants to fill the stands
>>149289920Inter Miami were the sole exception. All of the rest qualified normally by either winning their continental championships or being among the best-ranked in their region.
You can't say they picked teams by "brand recognition" right after saying it was full of literal whos. If that were the case, it wouldn't be hard to take away a spot from Monterrey or Ulsan to give it away to Liverpool and Barcelona.
>>149289920It's legit funny how nobody cares about Mundials here until somebody actually wins it. The most important SA event is Libertadores, nothing else. Same way nobody in Euro gives a fuck about anything beyond Champions.

Soccer is not itself an interesting sports itself. Itโs a fucking boring sports beyond hope for dumb proles and apes. Everyone from players to fans to coaches are usually repulsive subhumans. There are no other sports like that. Americans just realized that faster than anybody.
>but muh World Cup
Itโs just a substitute for war. Once you attain certain economic status, thereโs no reason culturally or politically you have to watch it or participate in it.
>>149288647That's a combination of NFL stadiums + mexicans and transplants attending games. Actual southerners don't want soccer
I really want euros/sudacas to understand. USSF doesnt give a shit about filling up stadiums. They dont purposefully set it up so the least amount of people watch it, but they couldnt give two shits about 90% attendance when they could have maybe 600 people show up and pay a minimum of $150 per ticket because it means more money. Thats why even ninja turtles games are half empty, nobody wants to put down half a fucking grand for tickets to a friendly or gold cup match against literal whos. Copa america was held and god bless all the sudacas that paid airfare, hotels and ticket prices but I wanted to attend on my own and it was almost $300 for NOSEBLEED tickets at a game the US wasnt even playing in
