Why did the club world cup fail?
Why does no one care about this?

The European world cup qualifiers in september are going to generate more fan engagement than this international tournmanent that so few people cared about that they had to make it free to watch.

I have to admit that I didn't have high hopes for this in the first place but this goes beyond what most people expected, it is utterly irrelevant

Club football just does not equal international football, for a start.

I'm a Hull City supporter, why the fuck would I care about Chelsea playing LAFC for example? I barely care about Chelsea playing Crystal Palace in the season.

Europeans are just not arsed after the end of a long season. Meanwhile, no disrespect to our South American friends who are all over this as it's an opportunity to show you can rival European teams, but most of you are too poor to actually attend a tournament like this, especially when it's for the smaller fanbase of a club compared to the national fanbase of your national clubs.

But I'll watch a whole international tournament, not just the games involving England. Whether that is the case for the upcoming abomination of a 48-team World Cup I don't know any more. I'm tired Wobbie.

Where in any way is this theoretically a good attendance match? People have work, it's still the last week of school in most of America so it's really not easy to take the kids. Atlanta isn't exactly a place that's on anyone's bucket list.
Had they hosted the game in LA, had they played the game at 8 local time, had they had the initial matchup it would have looked a lot better. But there are no LAFC Lifelongs, Atlanta isn't exactly a hub of American Soccer Culture and while it's a great city everyone in America should visit beyond a Delta transfer, unless you're really into Black American culture, railroad history, Olympic history or 21st century Media culture. And while there are a lot of people who like those things it's definitely more of a niche tourist city compared to New York, San Francisco, LA, Boston and Miami which are more broad in their appeal.

It's because FIFA and the organizers went full retard with it. The 4 biggest mistakes I can identify:
1. Fucking over fans and actually keeping them at home with inflated "this is a WC/Euro/Libertadores" prices on everything Tickets, Hotel prices, travel costs ... It's like they don't want them to be there
2. Spreading the event over the entire US, yeah this is a mess
3. 12:00/15:00 local kick-off times like moving LAFC games to fucking Atlanta and start them at 15:00 (12:00 in LA) local because muh Euro TV ratings
4. All of the above for glorified friendlies

1 - it's still the group stage c'mon
2 - the US are not a cheap or easy place to reach and only five clubs are from the US or a neighbouring country. Everyone else has to fly in from pretty far
2bis - for SOME reason, Seattle and Miami are staying in their regular training grounds and will play some if not all their games at home but LAFC is based in Georgia because ?????
3 - ticket prices
4 - the competition is stupidly spread out, that's going to deter some who might have considered doing a full trip and attend a bunch of games regardless of who is playing. Transportation time and costs if you want to do this would increase the total cost a lot
5 - they picked an enormous arena for this game and it's distant from LA too. Attendance would probably have been better if they had played in the Rose Bowl. Honestly, they probably shouldn't be using these 60k+ capacity stadiums for the group stage, they're going to be empty no matter what

I blame Ted Turner and Tyler Perry for this one, when it comes to media jobs.
But really it's cause they took I think Leon's place in the tournament over owning two clubs and by the time it was decided the stages had already been decided and some tickets purchased so they can't exactly reshuffle everything so that LAFC is playing their games in LA.

True. But Americans are used to extorsive pricing in tickets.
>hosted in the US
True.
>zero rivalry between teams playing
Not a problem. Continental competitions rarely have fierce international rivalries, and even at a local level that was never a problem. Arsenal doesn't have a special grudge against Ipswitch Town.
>zero familiarity with the clubs in the tournament
Anyone with an interest in football should be expected to know the UEFA and Conmebol sides. Maybe except for Salzburg, they are all well-known teams. Al Ahly and Al Hilal are well-known and domestically successful, while Urawa and Auckland are easy to recognise because they have been CWC regulars in the old format. That leaves us with very few literal whos, and even then you might know the Moroccans and the CONCACAF teams.

Group stage should have been at MLS stadiums (besides a few higher profile teams at night/weekend) and saved the American Football stadiums for the knockouts.

Soccer is not itself an interesting sports itself. Itโ€™s a fucking boring sports beyond hope for dumb proles and apes. Everyone from players to fans to coaches are usually repulsive subhumans. There are no other sports like that. Americans just realized that faster than anybody.

>but muh World Cup

Itโ€™s just a substitute for war. Once you attain certain economic status, thereโ€™s no reason culturally or politically you have to watch it or participate in it.

That's a combination of NFL stadiums + mexicans and transplants attending games. Actual southerners don't want soccer

I really want euros/sudacas to understand. USSF doesnt give a shit about filling up stadiums. They dont purposefully set it up so the least amount of people watch it, but they couldnt give two shits about 90% attendance when they could have maybe 600 people show up and pay a minimum of $150 per ticket because it means more money. Thats why even ninja turtles games are half empty, nobody wants to put down half a fucking grand for tickets to a friendly or gold cup match against literal whos. Copa america was held and god bless all the sudacas that paid airfare, hotels and ticket prices but I wanted to attend on my own and it was almost $300 for NOSEBLEED tickets at a game the US wasnt even playing in

When you invent a tournament out of nothing it starts with zero prestige. It will remain that way until people decide its worth caring about.
All the contrived hype and gimmicks don't matter.
The problem is they haven't accounted for football fatigue and the general sense of hatred towards fifa.
