It will be a race of attrition between Pogacar and MVDP for the for the future regarding the first 3 monuments. Both have been improving every year year to year in all 3 races and I hope Pogacar keeps doing all the and then Tour-Vuelta double. For me, this year all 3 races had the best performances ever, by the winners each race, and Pogacar became Flanders BOAT and MVDP Roubaix BOAT.

The strategy will remain the same, Pogacar with the biggest fuel tank of all time will try to cook MVDP starting from Cipressa, 2nd Kwaremont and Arenberg and MVDP will try to stay at his wheel and beat him in a sprint. I'd like to see UAE use one rider to absolutely send Berta also, that could be the difference.

For me this is the least tiring aspect of Pogacar. MvdP needs and adversary and so does Pog. Its great racing that they can "meet in the middle" in the shared arena, while also dominating other races separately. I'm sure many would disagree, but I would be fine with Pog preventing Mathieu from winning Flanders for years as long as Mathieu prevents Pog from winning Roubaix. This would be a rivalry worthy of the golden age that is so revered by cycling fans. As for total monuments it is somewhat disappointing that Pog will have an easier time racking up numbers unless he never rides LBL and GdL again. But Mathieu has the advantage in MSR to make up for this.

Exactly, Pogacar since 2024 is clearly the best rider of all time, so it takes GOAT-level classics rider in MVDP even improving at age 30 to resist him in these races, and it's incredible to watch. The thing is that Pogacar is almost 4 years younger than him, so one would imagine the scales tipping towards his favour in future years.

Tour de Suisse has been one of the great stage races of the year so far, with GC action going down to the WIRE! And to celebrate, we have another interesting bottle to discuss on /WORLD TOUR WINE/ !!

Today's wine is from Vetroz, a little town in Valais not far from Sion. To be honest, stage 2 was the closest but it's very difficult to source Swiss wines from anywhere but Vaud and Valais in the United States. This is a Dole, which is a red blend composed of Pinot Noir, Gamay, and a funny little Swiss grape called Diolinoir. It is a cross between Pinot Noir and Rouge de Diolly, an obscure French grape. Developed in the 1970s, it is popular in Switzerland due to its early-ripening properties, adding dark color and structure to Alpine wines.

Cave les Ruinettes Serge Roh Dole de Vetroz 2021 ($30)

Now, being a blend of my two favorite red grapes (Pinot Noir and Gamay), Dole reminds me of Passe-Tout-Grains - a red blend found in Burgundy which I really enjoy for its freshness and lively fruit. If you ever see Passe-Tout-Grains on shelves, try it; it's reasonably priced even from great producers.

This pours a dark red/purple. The depth of color I attribute to the Diolinoir, as Alpine Pinot Noir tend to be quite light in general. The nose has soft earth and forest, iron, not much fruit. There is no detectable oak. The palate is all earth, with light strawberry, and mouth-watering acidity. The finish is short and muted. Really no fruit character, but it also doesn't have the herbal/floral notes I enjoy in Alpine Pinot Noir which tends to be lean.

Really disappointing. It's not unpleasant, but just an uninspired example of Pinot and Gamay. Once again (this is the running theme in Switzerland), this should be a $10-12 bottle, not a $30 bottle. I'll see if this opens up at all with some air.

Aside from /WTW/, I basically only drink Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Chardonnay which are all best with some chill on them. As a general rule of thumb, people drink red wine too warm and white wine too cold.

The entire team stops to wait for him, to motivate him, to escort him, after the fall that suddenly, 32 kilometers from the finish line in Prato Nevoso, eliminated him from the fight for the general classification. At the finish line, Jarno Widar can't stop crying . Around him, the staff of the Lotto development team don't know how to behave, what to say, where to look. Fifty-year-old Belgians, with graying beards and the faces of those who have lived a lot, are stunned. There is a disturbing silence . At a certain point, Widar gets up and almost like a sleepwalker walks away towards a field of weeds. He drags himself for twenty or thirty meters, staggers due to the injuries he has sustained, then lets himself fall to the ground and begins to cry again.

Minimum handlebar width is actually 44cm when you take into account the way the hoods are designed to rotate in slightly even when you align them perfectly inline with non flared drops because Shimano, Sram and Campy hoods have a curve inward of 4cm.
They are banning anything wider than 28mm and anything larger than 52T and anything smaller than 11T.

UCI is literally retrogrouching.
