Is the hotness really affecting their performance that much? Either that or they’re treating these games as friendly matches and not even trying which wouldn’t make sense since they’re being paid more money with each win.

we don't care + mickey mouse cup + it's too hot + worst Porto/Borussia/Benfica/PSG/Chelsea of all time + we're too tired + jet lag + grass is too dry + humidity it's too high + we don't want our players to get injured + we're droping out early to prepare for next season + we're not sending our best teams + it doesn't pay enough + the sun is blinding the players + the crowds are too distracting + the pitches are smaller than we're used to + american food is low quality + FIFA is rigging the matches to make it more interesting + people are only watching because it's free here + less searches in Google than tennis

Modern Europeans have hormonal imbalances that prevent them from pursuing victory with the simple motivation of being better than others, it's pointless to explain to them why winning is good in itself and losing is bad, you'd have to contextualize it

they thought these were a comfy vacations and not a competition so they underestimated their opponents. I don't buy the " they don't care" argument because athletes are mostly retarded and ubercompetitve

What a fucking joke. Maybe for EPL teams that also went far in european comps like Chelsea, Tottehan and Arsenal. But for teams like Madrid and PSG, that can play 70% of their league matches with the B or C teams... It's a skill issue to have anyone tired right now. Same for the portuguese clubs, their league is a joke and they don't even go far in the continental tournaments.

UEFA CWC participant can win $125M for just advancing out of the group stage, plus additional $25M if they won every single match in their group.
So the difference between going through with minimal effort and actually trying is about the same as the prize that Slovan Bratislava received for losing every single Champion's League match this season and being dead last, which was circa 20M euros iirc. So for a club like Chelsea? It's pennies. They don't care.
Some clubs had the same attitude in the Conference League, like Betis which reached the final but was merely like 10th in the league stage because they knew they can beat most of the shitter clubs in the KO stage anyway.

they care because ir can help their psr, Chelsea did not play Champions league for example. Also the money for winning it is quite a lot. in total it can be like 150 mill that's more than winning the CL.

Winning may be worth it but to have a shot at that they merely need to get out of the group stage, not tryhard to beat everyone in their group. So I can totally understand when clubs that actually have a chance to win the whole thing, like PSG, Man City or Chelsea, try to go through the first matches with mininal effort.
What I don't understand is Porto getting buttfucked out of the tournament so early, the money for just participating in Ro16 is well worth the effort. I guess they are just not that good. Or their group was rigged for Riggitini.
