So what happened? From the "future of international soccer" to being a bench player in the Finnish League in the space of a decade. Was the official story that the pressure got to him true or do you believe the theory that his parents lied about his age?

Probably, it's easy to look like some huge talent in the academy when you're actually five years older than everyone else there

>MLS, especially at the time had dogshit quality players

He was the great American hope. The first seemingly talented American player was always destined to get a LOT of attention and hype. That has two downsides: first of all, it makes a player look much better than he actually is. And it also can easily make a player too cocky and distract him
Many, many players were credited with amazing talent and didn't become great or even good players as adults
I suppose he was simply overhyped in general and then got too cocky on top of his development stalling in general
