truth is mma fighters are like the decathlon athletes, they don't master any disciplines that's why they need decathlon to exist. mma is a safe net for those not so good fighters to make a living.

Wrestling only rules when you're on the ground. all fights start standing up of course. The "meta" around wrestling has evolved considerably in the last 5-10 years. And in Ilia's case, he is trained in Greco Roman and bjj and of course has developed solid fundamental boxing on top of that. I have thought for years now that high level boxers specifically will become unstoppable because other disciplines simply do not focus on the precision offense and defense boxing focuses on.

Once you see this in mma with fighters like both the Diaz bros, GSP, Conor, Ilia, JDM, even Poirier and Holloway, it makes lesser fighters who clearly learned all of their striking from lazy cardio kickboxing classes look totally amateurish in comparison. Imagine if Beniel Darisuh fought Ilia.
