Arri = Stone
Zabal = Wide / Broad (currently, used to be just a synonym for big)
Aga = used to denote locations
Arrizabalaga = Place with the wide stones
Most likely referring a quarry.

I remember when he signed for Chelsea after every media in Spain had him already picking a locker at Bernabeu.

Zubi = Bridge
Mendi = Mountain (we also use it for hills as the basque country doesnt have any really tall mountain)
So yeah Mountain Bridge.

Kepa is the form that the word for Peter took here. Both come from the word Kephas in Aramaic. While Peter / Pedro took the translated form of the word (Stone), Kepa took the word phonetically.
So in a longaround way it also means stone, but in the same way somebody named Peter or Pedro can also track it back to it meaning stone, while it not really meaning it. However the words i translated on those surnames are legit words in Euskara.

Very interesting, something I do a lot when I'm bored at work is look up etimologies so this is right up my alley.
Getting context like the hill part and wide~big is something you can only get from people that know the language tho.
Do you have anything on Arteta and Inaki Cana?

>Getting context like the hill part and wide~big is something you can only get from people that know the language tho.
We have a word for hill, but its just not used, we use mendi for everything.
The Wide/Big situation is widely accepted but its not a rule according to "Real Academia de la Lengua Vasca (Euskaltzaindia)", which is the authority on everything related to Euskara. However as i said is broadly accepted as a synonym when dealing with olden Euskera because its really prevalent in surnames and toponyms while the current word for big (handia) barely appears anywhere.
Also keep in mind that the current form of Euskara is about 55 years old (from 1968). Despite it being (one of the) oldest living languages of the world. We had so many small dialects and derivations on such a minuscule place that the academy had to standardize it, which has lead to a wider approach to the language but also means that a lot of its older foundations might have been lost.

Iñaki is the Euskara version of the name Ignacio, well in fact is the way that name would "go back" to Spanish. Euskara has no Ñ letter but has the Ñ sound, when a word in Euskara has an i before an n its supposed to do the Ñ sound "ny" so it probably was adopted as Inaki first then eventually standarized with the Ñ into Iñaki. The surename is Caña, which just means "reed" or "straw" etc.
Arteta is simpler
Arte = Holm Oak (Quercus ilex). Encina in Spanish.
Eta when used as a suffix is a way to denote a place "with a lot of". So Arteta would be "Forest of Holm Oaks" (Encinar in spanish)

I meant that it means reed or straw IN SPANISH. Its just a Spanish word. I know nothing of the man's family but nothing besides his name relates him to Euskara and its a fairly common name. Dunno if either of his parents are from the basque country or anything but nothing on his surnames seem to point to it.

Basically, someone has bid 60m and if Sporting rejects this bid then Sporting has to pay 10% of that to Gyökeres agent.

Basically, it's kind of an assurance for Gyökeres that if sporting get a 60m bid they will let him go, but their president is under pressure because Benfica can get 100m+ for shittier frauds and he can only get 60m for the best ever striker the poortuguese league has ever seen.

Don't give a shit about the 90s anniversary reference for the new blue kit, I'm not a fan of it. I also agree it's a crime Arsenal haven't had a classy standard yellow and blue away kit for years now. Radioactive yellow became kino, I admit, but it's not the same thing.

Pick your poison:
>Gyökeres
Great record in Portugal but hasn't cut it in a top league and might not do so well against the mid/low blocks Arsenal face
>Sesko
Nothing special about his record to date. Project striker who may or may not bang in a couple of years.
>Isak
Looks the biz but would cost the most and is the most likely to get injured and miss half the season under our slave driver.

Martinelli is just Smith Rowe boogaloo.

One of our own, entrusted with the No. 10, genuinely saved Arteta's job in 2020-21, gave us incredible moments, and just felt destined to rule the world alongside Saka.

Then he just... stopped progressing.

So many of our fans just couldn't let go, but the club was able to, and now you'd find no one who says we were wrong to do so.

Feel like same will happen with Gabi

If Eze is so great, and Wharton is amazing, and Mateta is the most underrated CF in Europe, and Sarr is a baller, and Guehi will start for Liverpool, and Munoz is the best RB in the league, and everybody rates Mitchell, and the GK is not bad, and Oliver Glasner is a genius.
Then why are Crystal Palace mid-table every season?

Gabriel Heinze's arrival at Arsenal marks a significant strategic addition to Mikel Arteta’s coaching team, following Carlos Cuesta’s recent departure to Parma.

>Coaching Journey:
Heinze brings a robust managerial pedigree--most recently at Newell’s Old Boys, with previous stints at Atlanta United and Godoy Cruz. Noted for high win ratios and tactical innovation, his teams emphasize aggressive pressing and adaptive 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 shapes--a style that closely aligns with Arsenal’s recent tactical evolution.

>Arteta Connection:
Heinze and Arteta share history as PSG teammates (2001-02), underpinning a strong footballing rapport. Arteta has credited Heinze among his early “inspirations,” indicating both a shared philosophy and mutual respect that can enhance staff synergy.

>Honours & Leadership:
Heinze’s playing career delivers gravitas: league titles at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Marseille, and 72 caps for Argentina, including Olympic gold (2004) and two Copa América finals. As a coach, his defensive organization and transitional play have won plaudits in top 5 leagues across continents.

>Arsenal Impact:
Heinze’s emphasis on defensive solidity and rapid transitions is poised to complement Arsenal’s attacking consistency from last season. With experienced assistants like Albert Stuivenberg and specialists Nico Jover (set-pieces) and Inaki Cana (goalkeeping), Arsenal’s refreshed staff is well-equipped for new tactical challenges in 2025.

Expert View: Expect Heinze’s tactical versatility and global experience to further enhance Arsenal’s adaptability--especially in high-pressure matches. This move strengthens the club’s ambition to blend continental insight with modern attacking football.

He didn't rape.
some woman messaged him, asking him to come over and do all sorts of crazy things to her pussy and Partey did it.
They had wild sex and went to sleep afterwards. Next morning, Partey woke up first and, trying to be funny, attempted to wake her up by playfully slapping his dick to the woman's face.
They eventually did get out of the bed and after eating breakfast, they each went their own ways.
Some days later the woman asked Partey for another sex night, but Partey refused.
So the woman, feeling desperate or insulted, tried to hit back. She filed a complaint, stating that what Partey did the morning, playfully slapping his dick to the woman's face, was not consensual.

They're like the stereotype of a dumb jock. They put all their time and energy into playing football than learning what normal people would learn. Of course most of them are going to dumb. And getting a boatload of money also makes people do stupid shit. That's why a lot of lottery winners lose all their money.

Enrolling in a football academy and focusing on sports over education from an early age does that to you. Intellectual development is completely stunted, and if you go pro there goes any reason for you to do anything intellectually stimulating in your daily life. To all intents and purposes you're transformed into a purely physical beast.

Footballers are genuinely all like this unless they've inherited an unusually high IQ. And even that eventually grows rusty with no use.

I don't know about that. Plenty of players have vices I'm sure. They just have a good handle on it. Even if your vice is sex, I'm sure there are services out there now that you could use if you had the money of some of these players but obviously that goes back to them being too dumb to use those services.

My theory is that Berta has been doing this parallel negotiation thingy in preparation for the Partey charges. Now Arsenal can just announce Zubimendi, and after that announce Norgaard, and after that announce Mosquera, and toss in a couple scoops on the striker and winger situation, and before you know it it's preseason and there are games to look forward to.

Flood the zone, submerge the fanbase and press in extraneous football and transfer discussion, and within a few weeks the season will start and this case will go the way of the 115 City charges. People eventually stop caring.

I can think of 2 reasons:

1. they shoe-stringed Partey along to appease him and not risk litigation. If they were to ban him from the club because of the allegations, they would have to either buy out his contract or Partey takes them to court for lost wages, the latter especially if it’s proven that he is innocent. By negotiating ridiculous terms and refusing to budge, Arsenal can point to good faith negotiations, even knowing that the charges were coming and can escape with bad PR

2. they legitimately didn’t think anything would come of it and didn’t plan for anything of the sort to happen, especially after what happened with the anal cream situation, and we’re offering him a contract that he didn’t want. Remember, this is a club that has shown time and time again that they are willing to overlook and stick with their players through injury or bad situations

option 1 makes more sense, especially since they didn’t bring up renewing his contract earlier in the season. Arsenal’s lawyers must have heard it in the pipeline earlier in the last year and prepared to come off as a club who is bad at renewing (which could also be why they’ve been stalling in renewing deals for players like Nwaneri and MLS) so that they can wash their hands of the situation.

This isn't the Arsenal I loved anymore. When Wenger left, the class went with him. There is no way that this Partey shit would have dragged on under his watch.

Since Arteta took over, it's been a pathetic win at all costs mentality at the club with the values and the quality of football taking a massive hit in favour of hoofball tactics and set pieces. The saddest part is that we haven't won anything significant despite that mentality. It would be like if Mouinho had won no trophies during his Chelsea tenure.

Still no PL since 2004. Still no CL trophy since EVER. Mikel Artitty's STILL head coach of THE FARCENAL.
I hope this leaves a black mark on Artetea forever.
Asshole was given the largest transfer & wage budget in the club's history and he's got 1 FA Cup and 2 Pre-season friendly shields to show for.

Players with true ambitions to win major league titles and the CL are less likely to join Arsenal.
Arsenal landed Declan Rice over Manchester City because he didn't have to move and his starting role was more clearly defined.

This summer was touted as being a massive one. Arteta said it gave him goosebumps. If two new cdms and Madeuke gives you goosebumps then fuck me were in real trouble. Last point, there is no way in hell we get 3 attacking players like we need. So in my opinion will most likely get prolly Madeuke and if we don’t buy a striker then fuck me we are shit.

Everyone knows the Kroenke's ambitions stop at perennial Champions League qualification & Round of 16 appearances.
Top-class players know they deserve to be at a better club.
Arsenal budgets the squad around 4/5 years of CL football, with the remaining 1/5 year winning the Europa League to qualify for next season's CL.

They don't budget for PL title-challenge sweetie.
Kroneke sanctioned larger transfers in the past 3~5 years because Farcenal had a lot of catching up to do, now they just want to spend enough to stay ahead of Newcastle, Tottenham, and Manchester United.
Arsenal knows they can't match City, Chelsea, or Liverpool in the long run (United too, but they're so far behind atm).

>The club are also exploring the addition of a more versatile attacking player, such as Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze or Morgan Rogers. Arsenal are being kept informed on a number of players to afford them flexibility in their planning.

This makes it sound like Madueke is the alternative to Eze, not Rodrygo. Would be more tolerable but losing out on Eze will still bite us in the ass. We have sub-zero creativity.

The most significant attacking links at the moment are Gyökeres for No. 9, Rodrygo for LW and Madueke as the 3rd "versatile forward". All of these players are known to excel in quick transitions, something we're possibly dead worst at in Europe right now. My theory is that Arteta noticed our habit of consistently throwing away games in the Second Half after taking the lead, and is now basically planning to play two halves of football: Havertz and Saka lead the line in the first half and play possession based as usual, then around minute 60 (if we take the lead) completely shut up shop, put on our Stoke kits, and bring on Gyokeres and Madueke (possibly Martinelli also) to fully exploit counters. Zubimendi and Norgaard both being excellent at causing high turnovers also supports this. We are going to witness a scale of terrorism worthy of The Hague.

I can't imagine how depressing it must be for other teams and fans when we go 1 nill up and just park the bus and everyone knows you're not getting through. And even if you do actually manage to score, we switch the game totally over to try to win, and force the opponent into setting up their own shop. only games that usually look pretty joever for us to win are the ones where we concede first. we're still extreme mental midgets

>The transfer fee in a total package could land at around 900 million SEK.
>Viktor Gyökeres' next club has been a hot topic in recent months and he has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus.

>Earlier, Portuguese media reported that the Swede's representative, star agent Hasan Cetinkaya, was in London for several meetings regarding the Swede's future.

>Sportbladet can now reveal that the national team star is only details away from a transfer to Arsenal, where the clubs are negotiating the last small pieces.

>The parties hope to have an agreement ready within the next few weeks where the transfer sum in a total package is expected to land at a total of 900 million Swedish kronor.

We need a Swede to unfraud the team from all the fraudulent Danes and Norwegians that you don’t win leagues with.

Last time Arsenal won the league? Swedish player started.

Sign a Swede, and you'll succeed.

Sportbladet and Swedish news are fairly reliable for Swedish players only.

But they get fed by the agent mostly, so not tier 0/1 but a tier 2

>[Fabrizio Romano] My understanding is the valuation between Chelsea & Arsenal for Madueke is quite different. But Arsenal are preparing to send the first bid.

thank god, Arsenal won’t pay more than the initial £30m Lelsea paid so they won’t let him leave.

Very easy Nordic heuristics when it comes to sport and life in general:
>Sign a Swede and you'll succeed
>Play a Finn and you'll never win
>Trust a Dane and you'll feel the pain
>A Norwegian? You'll never win again
