Compare Swedish and Danish kid, German Kitz and Kitze, Albanian kedh and kec. The sense of child has been in use since the 1590s as cant, and since the 1840s in informal use.[1][2]

mint or lavender is easy indoors in pots. alliums are the family of onions and garlics, some of them are ornamental or you could put some garlic for example in a window box, you’ll have to research what suits you.
eucalyptus and citrus you can grow them inside in pots as bonsai trees or just keep trimming them back they’ll be fine, you’ll need a bit of research on those too.
I think the simplest easy and quick way is get some mint and/or lavender in pots put them by the windows and see if those geckos are offended enough to go away
