It's happening
A non washed player chose Arsenal
Anonymous Sweden No.149637583 [Report]
Transl. Aftonhoran article:
>The Viktor Gyökeres transfer saga is coming to an end.
>According to Sportbladet, Arsenal and Sporting CP are now finalising the last details regarding the Swede and the parties hope to find a solution within the next few weeks.
>The transfer fee in a total package could land at around 900 million SEK.
>Viktor Gyökeres' next club has been a hot topic in recent months and he has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus.

>Earlier, Portuguese media reported that the Swede's representative, star agent Hasan Cetinkaya, was in London for several meetings regarding the Swede's future.

>Sportbladet can now reveal that the national team star is only details away from a transfer to Arsenal, where the clubs are negotiating the last small pieces.

>Most expensive Swede ever
>The parties hope to have an agreement ready within the next few weeks where the transfer sum in a total package is expected to land at a total of 900 million Swedish kronor.

>This would make Viktor Gyökeres the most expensive Swedish player deal ever, beating both Zlatan Ibrahimovic's move from Inter to Barcelona and Alexander Isak's move from Real Sociedad to Newcastle.
>Both of those transfers ended up at around 750 million Swedish kronor.

There is reason for optimism. Reports say Chelski value him way higher than we do. Also learned today that we binned Sesko after Leipzig refused to budge on price, meaning Berta could easily pull out if he doesn't get a good deal.

It's looking more like we're just using this for leverage in the Eze and Rodrygo discussions. This is definitely not copium on my part.

I don't get it, is madueke replacing rodrygo? Why is that the case? Also madueke is supposedly the saka backup but it's been reported that the club want a left wing starter which is why there were links to rodrygo. From my understanding the current situation will be trossard/martinelli both staying and no rodrygo?

So:
Martinelli/trossard - gyokeres - saka
?

I'm very confused

my take is that he goes back to midfield, slot in behind striker during late matches and give Arteta a pseudo two-striker formation. He’ll also be backing up Saka on the right wing.

would also make sense as to why they want to sig a left wing/midfielder and let Nwaneri leave. Eze would potentially be a fit given Arteta’s need for versatility, I think all the Rodrygo talk is just a smoke show from both Arsenal and Madrid to detract and promote the situation to bigger spenders

Eze on the left, Saka on the right with Gyokeres down the 9 is the first time you can look at Arsenal's attack and consider it competitive w City / Liverpool

Barcola is such a culturally-Arsenal player. Frog, lightskin, technical, extremely rapid, BCM spammer. If I had divine control over football transfers, I'd have him at Arsenal over Rodrygo purely to preserve the order of nature. When you think about it, we're just not the kind of club to have a Brazilian joga bonito superstar. Every time we buy a Brazilian forward he either turns out poo (e.g. Marquinhos) or becomes a nothing system player (e.g. Martinelli). When a player bucks this trend and actually plays like a proper favela jogador, nature intervenes and fucks him up with injuries (e.g. Eduardo, Jesus). We definitely inquired about Barcola, but the lack of reputable links to us makes me think PSG gave us the fuck-offiest of fuck-off price quotes. Sad.

As per @Record_Portugal

Details of Arsenal's offer for Gyokeres this moment

Arsenal offer of 65 million euros fixed plus 15 million euros in addition ons.

Sporting Lisbon insists on 70 million euros guaranteed base fee

Of the €15 million in add ons, €5 million is tied to targets that are easy to achieve, making the probability of a total deal reaching €70 million very high.

The other 10 million add ons, they rely on more difficult collective and personal goals.

Coventry City retains the right to 15% of profit. But Sporting Lisbon used a clause that would allow them to reduce that percentage, which they did to reduce Coventry's ratio to just 10%.

In addition,Gyokeres has given up 2m euros of his salary to help facilitate the move

I would describe him as the Scandinavian Luis Suarez. As in not as good technical as Suarez but he makes that up by being more physical. The reason I think about Suarez is that both enjoy small spaces and almost seem to enjoy having the ball when a defender is up their asses. They somehow invites the physical challenge and turns the defender away with physique. Compare that to Isak who rather comes running towards a defender with full speed and struggle more when it gets physical. This is also the reason why I always wanted Gyökeres out of the bunch in gossips. He will fit Arteta's lack of direct play the best.

The cope arguments by the Sesko Warriors yesterday all ran the same:
>Havertz was good as No. 9 in the 16-1-1 run
>Sesko is similar to Havertz
>Arteta will only play the kind of system that suited Havertz
>So we need a younger more retarded Havertz
It was literally this kind of thinking that cost us last season. Havertz' profile (facilitator, heavily involved in buildup, sitting just behind the wingers) automatically becomes a burden when Arteta's possession system fails against mid and low blocks. Whenever it did, we had no options except to bring on Raheem the Dream and overdose on hopium. Gyokeres won't be involved in buildup like Havertz would, and that's precisely where his strength lies. He can fully focus on his running and positioning as the others try to get the ball to him. How many times did Saka low-cross the ball into the 6-yard-box and there was no one to tap in? Gyokeres is there to bag that 10 times out of 10. How many times does Raya boot it long only for Havertz to pass it back to Rice? Gyokeres takes that down and runs 50 yards on his own to smash it the fuck in. These kinds of actions will win us games against stubborn defences that won't fall for us schizo-passing it round the edge of the box like automated Tetabots. I suspect this was the argument Berta presented to Arteta to wean him off of Sesko, and thankfully it looks to have worked.

Good news is that he is indeed supposed to be the Saka backup rather than the main winger signing, for which we are looking at Rodrygo and Gordon. Eze is seen as a separate creative midfielder deal. I can see a scenario where we sign all of Rodrygo, Eze, and Madueke, conditional on us moving on both Martinelli and Trossard, as well as Vieira. ..

The deal for Gyökeres' transfer to Arsenal is now on the "brink of collapse" .. Arsenal's representatives have returned to London without an agreement..

The deal is in jeopardy now after two days without any progress

The gap between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon is small, as the former offers 65 million euros + 5 million euros + 10 million euros, while the latter demands 70 million euros fixed.

the athletic said there were 3 targets to choose from, madueke, rodgers and eze - madueke seems to have been chosen - eze is no longer happening

sky sports said it's also between madueke and rodrygo - madueke was chosen - rodrygo is no longer happening

sesko deal broke down - gyokeres was supposed to be the alternative but that has now stalled according to the independents miguel delaney - ben jacobs and tnat are saying watkins is on the table

to summarize:

of the 4 potential attacking targets not including gyokeres, being eze, rodrygo, rodgers and madueke, madueke has been chosen to play on both wings and the no 10 position. of the 3 striker targets, being sesko, gyokeres and watkins, 2 have broken down with watkins being the most likely.

I get the vibe that a lot of our top journalists don't have as much of an in as they had in the Edu days.
Ornstein is constantly changing his mind about whether Eze is seen as our LW or separate to Rodrygo/Madueke, Everyone seemed very sure talks were progressing well with Sesko - with Mokbel and Ornstein saying they expected us to sign him - until they weren't, Ornstein thinks we may need to sell if we want Eze/Rodrygo but isn't sure.

Let's just see where we are in a couple of months. Hopefully we can at least get Eze alongside Madueke.

Noni would unironically be a solid Saka backup - realistically probably the best we can get given Saka has the position held down for years to come. Better teammates + bit of tactical instruction from Arteta and hopefully he'll be better than he was at Chelsea, and given his age, that would actually be quite a good player.
If we're even remotely considering him as our LW option I won't be watching next season.

We've been rinsing the boy for years and saw the consequences of that last season. Yeah obviously he should start every game but I wouldn't mind him having a competent backup so he can get 20mins rest if we're up, or even so he can get swapped out if he's having a stinker.

You're adding drama to pretty standard updates.
Athletic says we were interested in those 3 players but did not say that a move for 1 rules out moves for the others.
No one has closed the door on Rodrygo though I agree it probably won't happen - both the Athletic and Romano (I believe) have said that we won't know what's going on re Rodrygo's future until after the CWC.
We've been negotiating that price for a while now and that's all Delaney's article has said really. Maybe we've pulled out but we probably won't know for a couple days. I reckon we sign him.
For what its worth I'm shitting myself and think we genuinely could bring in Gyok and Noni as our only attacking signings, which would be piss poor, but we really don't know yet, and a lot of the stuff being shared, especially that Delaney article, just reads like silly season bollocks and rehashing things that have already been said.

there is only 1 day left to complete the gyokeres deal. sporting granted him a 4 day leave from pre season because he threatened to boycott the club and not turn up to training which started on monday. so that was from monday through to tomorrow (thursday). if it's not done by tomorrow it's basically over and it'l be our own fault for not paying what is required for a quality player. to me it just shows that the club don't have confidence in him. they wanted sesko and that broke down. they pivoted to gyokeres but they're standing firm on their evaluation of him which means they don't truly trust his ability. my theory is they came into the window with only sesko in mind.

All journos phrase everything in the blandest, most ambiguous terms. Ornstein's Athletic column (does he still do it?) was the worst. It was often inane verbiage like:

>I'm hearing Arsenal are thinking about a backup for Saka, if they can raise the funds and the right player is available, but no solid word yet. They are also open to a swap deal assuming manager Mikel Arteta gives the go-ahead, but only after talks with Josh Kronke and the Virgin Mary thanks to the holy intercession of the spirit of David Rocastle and provided they receive official confirmation that Lord Lucan is dead. Then we may see some business.

But I agree with the other anon about them all scrambling for sources in the post-Edu world and trying to work out how Berta operates.

May well be the case but you're purely speculating and we're obviously going to be negative.
I think we have a good shot, though. Everyone knows we're desperate for a 9. Seems Leipzig want fuckoff money for Sesko, Gyok is desperate to leave, Sporting don't have much of a reason to keep an unhappy player and we're only a few million off their valuation. Both sides have a reason to cave and one side probably will at some point.
I agree that Sesko was probably the top target but I read an article yesterday (Athletic I think? Maybe BBC?) which made it seem like we rate them much closer than we as a fanbase seemed to think we did. As in Gyokeres was always very much on the table, and Sesko was never the pure favourite, Leipzig were still willing to return to negotiations in recent days but we told them to fuck off in favour of Gyokeres.
In more positive news, Steinberg from Guardian, who I'm pretty sure I've seen reliable stuff from before, has JUST said that the Madueke deal doesn't impact our interest in Eze. Fingers crossed ey

I think Mokbel is pretty clueless now too. All their articles read as speculation - the stuff around Nwaneri's contract was laughable.

fucking shitspur just signed kudus for 55m which is a better right winger alternative to madueke. granted madueke can also play left wing, but what's the fucking point of having trossard and martinelli then? ok one of them might leave, but that still means 50m for a mediocre player that doesn't excel in any single position, and it also kills the budget for rodrygo. i'm fuming man. really ruined my fucking day.

As a backup he's definitely competent, if you define that as being better at carrying a football than William Borges and Sterling.

But the price begs the question
Is he even coming as a backup option?? We're not Man City, we've never spent that much on someone who wasn't going straight into the 11.
And what does this mean for Eze and Rodrygo? We're not investing 200m+ on 3 starting-level attackers in one window.
I've always thought he was either being used as a bargaining chip for those two or a cheap Gabi/Leo replacement IF Chelski drop their price. This bid just killed both possibilities.
Noni Madueke is our long-awaited LW...

literally could've done without madueke. we don't need him, nwaneri is the natural saka replacement. sign eze, sign gyokeres, sign rodrygo. so simple, but now we're going to lose out on rodrygo and probably eze because of this madueke signing. imagine being zubimendi and expecting to play with the likes of rodrygo and gyokeres but you end up with madueke and havertz.

unpopular opinion but facts
Nwaneri is massively overrated by >our fan base and won’t fulfill half the expectations that people have of him. Let that kid develop and go on loan where he starts every game and then we’ll see. At the same time Madueke is underrated - he is definitely better than Martinelli simply because of the one fact, dude shoots, a lot.
>>149694644
No clue bro, the whole price tag issue is my main issue because as you said >we never have and probably never should pay that much for a backup player UNLESS he really is >our new starting LW, he can play everywhere across the front three and we all know how much of a hard on Arteta has for ‘versatile’ players, add the Lelsea tag on top of it and you have a match made in heaven.

nwaneri is overrated? yes, is he good enough for a back up? also yes.
do we need to spend 50m for some bum that can't even cut it with chelshit? NO, we shouldn't.
eze is much better at basically everything, he's more versatile, more creative, better scoring and better at holding the ball.

It's safe to say, judging by other transfers such as those of kepa and norgaard, that madueke isn't a backup signing. Kepa and norgaard were great bits of business for backup players on the cheap. Madueke for 50m will be the starting left winger whether you like it or not. Even if we do go on to sign eze and gyokeres I'll still be disappointed in madueke. Nothing signifies a lack of ambition more than signing Chelsea rejects as first team starters.
