We already watched the italian league in he 80s when they hired all brazilians
Silvio lanceloti (rip) would give food recipes during the match
Then ronaldo went to spain in the late 90s and people watched it
Then espn popularized the premier league and the champions league in the 00s with a goldem generation of football nerds
They also popularized the nfl (in the middle class) with a pair of clown locutors yelling at tv

>Ronaldo was champion in 3 different top leagues
The problem with this factoid is that he played in the teams that were expected to win those leagues. Juventus was in a 7-year winning streak and in fact lost the streak during Ronaldo's last year. ManUtd had won the league 7 of the last 10 years when CR arrived. The Spanish league is unironically the league that he was the most unlikely to win when he arrived at about 50% chance due to it being a 2-horse race league.

Yes. He would do great in the Italian league even in his current form and he would have done great in the EPL in his prime. He could probably play well for City even right now but I won't even count that because you'd probably claim he'd just be a Guardiola babby again.

I think it's more delusional to think the opposite. In 2019 he dragged a shit Barcelona team into being 2 matches away from winning a UCL. The same Barcelona that kept competing in Spain and Europe with him was literally too shit to even get past R16 in Europa league after he left.
Even looking at old Messi dragging the worst team in the CWC into a tie with a top Brazilian team and a win against Porto and seeing how many chances he created that his geriatric teammates squandered just makes it obvious he can still do well in a professional team.

>That Barca was bad after Xavi and Iniesta left, not after he left lmfao.
Reading comprehension.
Yes, the Barรงa team he was left with after Xavi and Iniesta retired was dogshit. The club had been mismanaged for years and the remnants of the team that Guardiola had built was either retired or getting old, and no good reinforcements were brought other than extremely expensive star signings that could help siphon more money out of the club.
That said, Messi still dragged that dogshit team into UCL semi-finals in 2018-19, QF in 2019-20, and at least past the group stage in 2020-21. The moment he left, this Messi-dependent Barรงa crumbled and couldn't even compete in UCL for 2 years.

I don't know what's so hard to understand. The team was bad, you can't expect Messi to magic it into winning shit every year. Just the fact that this same team got a foot into a UCL final in 2019 and still managed to get past the group stage of UCL for 2 more years is a testament to how good Messi was at the time. But he can't continuously win on his own against real teams at the top when the rest of his team is shit.
Is your entire argument really that Messi would not be able to perform well in Serie A or in the EPL if he joined a shit team? Because the entire discussion is based on the fact that Ronaldo joined the best teams of those leagues when he won them. But in that case, yeah, I guess Messi would struggle to win the EPL if he joined Ipswich Town or Serie A if he joined Monza, good point.

If you're talking about achievements, he won Ligue 1 with PSG. He would have won EPL with ManUtd in the late 00's and he would have won Seria A with Juve in the mid 10's. It's not even controversial to make this assumption, less skilled players than Messi or Ronaldo would also have been able to join these teams and win at those times.
If you're talking about stats, Messi wasn't the main attack threat of PSG to begin with and it's no secret that that PSG team was bad because of too many freedoms given to their star players. He also clearly didn't care about the club and was more focused on the NT at the time.

And the fact that he was the start player in successful national team runs in continental and WC tournaments.
And the fact that he has shown that even with a shit team full of retired and/or amateur players he can win against mid-tier professional opposition, creating chances and scoring.
And this is 35~38 year old Messi we're talking about. You're acting like Messi in his prime wouldn't have been able to play in England or Italy which just makes no sense.
Look at the semi finals against Liverpool in 2019. Barcelona, in a very bad shape, beat one of England's best teams 3-0 in huge part thanks to a stellar Messi performance. Then, Klopp tactically neutralized Messi in the return fixture and the rest of the team was completely unable to pick up the slack and got destroyed 4-0. There's no reason to believe that Messi wouldn't have been able to beat other English teams regularly if he was part of a competent English team.

I mentioned that as well. It's like you're refusing to read for some reason.
>Then, Klopp tactically neutralized Messi in the return fixture and the rest of the team was completely unable to pick up the slack and got destroyed 4-0.
Messi is a brilliant player but he can't win against 11 professionals at the top level on his own. It should be obvious. Teams are more important than top players as PSG has shown us this season. But to say that a player of his calibre definitely couldn't perform in a different league and insulting me just for disagreeing with you is honestly behaviour that I'm unable to comprehend.

It's just a data point for fucks sake. Of course Messi beat other English teams and of course it's different when you have to beat them every week. But for that matter, the EPL in the late 00's is different from the EPL now. Quality has gone up relative to other leagues while team disparity has gone down.

Also did it in England and didn't have to play in France as an intermediate stepdown
Reminder Messi never played in the EPL and that's always going to be a question mark about him

Ronaldo has tested himself in stronger leagues (PL, La Liga, Serie A).

Messi just look a retirement package in the US after a long stint at the same cushy La liga club.

Well, Ronaldo just recently said his career is not completed yet. He wants to win WC and score 1000 goals. Next year is his final chance to achieve his biggest dream. This Portugal team is the strongest one in history. If he bottles again, then it is what it is. It's just Ronaldo vs Ronaldo now.
