Different anon, but I am somewhat happy with where we are now. These seven years sucked, but I kind of think they were necessary. We've got a new and more humble club philosophy, finances are fine again. I am under the impression that this penance led to positive change that wouldn't have come otherwise. Of course, the rest of the Bundesliga has moved away from us in the mean time, and establishing the club there anew will be tough. But the momentum and the necessary basic structures are there. Now we "only" need a functioning squad for that crucial first two years while developing the youth academy some more.
I don't like saying it, but we deserved to go down in 2018. Now we must do better, and we actually have the chance do better

It's one of the most fierce in Germany, but Hamburg's main rival is Bremen. Both clubs have been historic rivals fighting for supremacy in northern Germany since before WW2, the rivalry between the cities goes back to the Middle Ages.
St. Pauli is what it is now since about the early 80s, that's when the rivalry with HSV we know truly started. Not like they loved each other before that since they were city rivals, but especially between the first Bundesliga season and like 1985, both clubs had little to do with another: HSV was one of the biggest clubs in the country and never played St. Pauli. I've been told that a quite a few people even supported both clubs. With their new anarcho-leftie image change, St. Pauli began sharpening the rivalry with HSV, who had a few openly right-wing hool groups back then.
Things really kicked off in 2018, when HSV finally got relegated for the first time. Now both were in the same league. St. Pauli had closed the gap significantly. That's when HSV's attention had to shift a bit, less focused on Bremen and more focused on St. Pauli. Today, that rivalry is bigger and more emotional than ever. It's always been big for political reasons (HSV isn't right-wing by any means, but compared to and in the eyes of St. Pauli, everything is), but now it has become a somewhat regular sight with actual city supremacy on the line, even though HSV remains much bigger in most aspects. They've squandered their lead, so to say
Anonymous Germany No.149732647 [Report] >>149740875
>>149731401
Sportive value has been low for ages, but now it's pretty big since HSV decided to take a 15 year vacation and turn retarded
The emotional value has always been high

It depends on how you see it. Both clubs take this really seriously. Pauli fans are obsessed with being seen as "the actual club of Hamburg" while HSV fans have really become paranoid and mindbroken by their consistent failures in recent years. That's why they kinda fear derbies with Pauli, it's theirs to lose and they've gotten a taste of it after having been way above Pauli's level for >100 years.
HSV can basically only lose these games because of the historic divide between the clubs: if Pauli wins, HSV gets clowned HARD. If HSV wins, they've only repeated what has always been the case. In case of a tie, HSV has still failed
That's why the chimpout and autism power of this derby is high, it's very cinematic, and fights for a single city are usually more intense in general. But it's not really a defining sports duel with a big history on its own

You can't define St. Pauli without the politics. Everyone who supports St. Pauli either actively supports the left wing causes or is silently okay with it.

Good question. As an outsider, it seems like people must be really gullible to not care about St. Pauli's political identity at all. As you've said, it is everywhere. That's what the club is known for. There must be a few people who aren't inherently political, but compared to other football clubs, that share must be hilariously low.
As has already been said, St. Pauli wasn't always like this. They started this movement in the late 70s and had taken over by the mid-80s. Surely there are a few families/people left who were fans of the club before said change already and therefore don't really care, but many of these people could have abandoned the club since - quite frankly - it wasn't "theirs" anymore
There was a a bit of a shift: people pissed off by the right-wing hool groups in HSV's vicinity (they were never a majority, but the club didn't specifically combat them) became the "new Pauli" fans, that might have pushed a few people from "old Pauli" to HSV ... at least eventually. Nowadays, you obviously can't just switch between the clubs since you'd be immediately outed as a super plastic faggot

It's not shit, it's doing fine. But it required a big overhaul for the Euros. It will be shit in 20 years. For now, it's fine. Unfortunately, 90s stadium projects were often built somewhat lazily, and the stadium still stands on top of structures from 1950. These are old
As of now, the stadium is fine. But prior to the renovation, you could see it was getting a bit old. Without the 30 million the renovation cost, there wouldn't have been Euro games in Germany's second-biggest city. Now take that 20 years into the future and you can see why HSV is happy with a new stadium being on the horizon
Currently, the main issue HSV has with the stadium as it is is that it's too small. But not way too small

They are stuck in 2nd Bundes and not close to getting promoted. They will need to get their shit together soon. You can't realistically expect them to get promoted this season, they were lucky to not get relegated last time. Finances are still pretty dire and the club is as chaotic as ever. Their youth development has also gotten worse, it seems. If everything goes realistically well, they can be promotion material in 2 to 3 years. Staying in Bundes will be a different beast, they don't have the money for that as of now

Kopenhagen is a few weeks ahead in their season prep, their season starts next week while the Bundesliga doesn’t start till the end of August. It’s not surprising at all so far. Also, the squad still isn’t finished either and the tactics are still being adjusted (from a possession-based dominant team in 2nd Bundes to a more aggressive counter team capable of defending better in Bundes)
We only want to stay in the league, nothing so far has given the impression that this isn’t possible

Hamburg will always be my favourite German club as the 80s supporters all named their kids after Kevin Keegan. They bought a dud though, should've gone for Trevor Francis.

When should they have bought him? 1979? Could have been interesting for sure, though …
Did you know Keegan is mentioned in one of HSV‘s anthems, „Wir sind schlau, wir sind Fans vom HSV“? In the same breath as Beckenbauer and right after Uwe Seeler and Charly Dörfel. That’s obviously to be expected, he’s a real legend after all
Anonymous Germany No.149742163 [Report]
Decent first half. Still a lot of work ahead of course, but given where the team currently stands leading to the season, this was fine. New transfers are still needed (Mikelbrencis is still too rough around the edges to count on him, the offensive power is still not quite there either), the tactics still have to be fully implemented … but it wasn’t bad
Second half will be more of a meme, I think. A few players there have no real place in the final squad
Anonymous Germany No.149742474 [Report]
Without knowing anything about Kopenhagen‘s squad depth, this second half should see them pull away. Suhonen and Ramos will likely be sold, Schonlau is still a bit questionable, Jatta has been injured for ages

Anonymous Germany No.149744103 [Report]
I take from this match that
>Philippe might be better off as a central striker than on the right wing after all
>we definitely need more quality on the striker position and a good offensive midfielder
>Soumahoro is very promising
>Sahiti was better than expected on the right wing
>Hefti might be good enough for the RB position after all, but it's still up to debate. Mikelbrencis is still too inexperienced, he'd get eaten alive
>Ramos kind of was a bum in 2nd Bundes, but this was so good that keeping him is actually an option now
Remberg was good, Elfadli didn't have his best day. Glatzel and Jatta will struggle at this rate
