I was looking at some of the past draft, and one that jump to my eyes was the 2021. All top-9 picks seems to have already established themselves in the NHL as important part of their teams.

Last season:

Owen Power: 40 pts in 79 games Matty Beniers: 43 pts in 82 games Mason MacTavish: 52 pts in 76 games Luke Hughes: 44 pts in 71 games Kent Johnson: 57 pts in 68 games Simon Edvinsson: 31 pts in 78 games William Eklund: 58 pts in 77 games Brandt Clarke: 33 pts in 78 games Dylan Guenther: 60 pts in 70 games
skip #10 and #11 for obvious reasons (a very big reach + didn't happen).
12 Cole Sillinger: 33 pts in 66 games
13 Matt Coronato: 47 pts in 77 games

2020 was also very good overall, but Holtz at #7 and Drysdale at #6 ruin the narrative I’m seeing with 2021 where everyone in the top-9 is legit, but nobody is clearly ahead as elite. Stutzle and Raymond are clearly ahead of some of the others.

2019-Hughes clearly ahead while Turcotte doesn’t seem to have establish himself. Dach and Zegras are still question mark.

2015- Top-10 is VERY legit, but McDavid is clearly ahead of the rest.

2013- Same. Very good top-10, but MacKinnon is a couple of step ahead.

Dahlin was several tiers better than Schaefer as a prospect, and he had played 47 games in the Swedish pros before his NHL debut. And the Sabres also fucked up Dahlin's development by not sheltering him properly, which is why he's a retard today who doesn't know when to pinch or how to stay in position.
Ekblad was a similar caliber prospect, but he was far more NHL ready because he was physically huge and had been granted exceptional status, so he had over 200 OHL games under his belt. Schaefer has like 80.

Where do we see Utah finishing next year?

Probably one of the teams that get talked about the least, obviously that franchise has been an afterthought for a decade but they really seem better on paper than they’re given credit for. They’re one of four teams (the others are Tampa, Washington and winnipeg) who have 5 players who scored at least 60 points last season on their roster. Cooley, Guenthier, and Peterka look like they’re only going to get better, Keller is probably the most underrated superstar in the league, and defense is filled with cheap vets with good shot suppression numbers and two very good offensive defensemen in sergachev and durzi.

Obviously goaltending is lousy on paper but it’s such a crapshoot from year to year anyway, the V’s could easily over or underperform. I just think they’re one of the easiest to overlook that could make noise, and that’s before iginla and desnoyers make the roster in a year.
