Since Endou got surgery, that means we have a proper readout of the condition of his knee for the first time in like ten years.
Endou's diagnosis is:
>Torn ACL, torn MCL, medial and lateral meniscus tears, arthritis
The certificate recommends 2 months recovery in hospital, which is downright reasonable for a sumo certificate.

The average new viewer has no idea what the difference between good and bad sumo looks like.

Just get some talent from olympic wrestling, judo, bรถkh, gay turkish oil wrestling, etc. It adds some 'battle of the martial arts' flavor, like early UFC.
Maybe add weight classes and definitely ban megafatties, normies just think it's gross or funny.
Remove all the rituals so it's bearable to watch live.
Poach Hoshoryu.
And actually sell and market it outside of Japan.

There. Hire me, Hakuho.

I always thought about this too, but I think the biggest hurdle isn't about the sport itself but actually making it profitable, boxing and ufc which are other 1v1 sports are drenched in the most scummy sponsorships imaginable, if hakuho wants to have sumo sponsored by DUDE WIPES and have their salaries bankrolled by crypto and sports gambling then i'm sure it could be "profitable" but it wouldn't be sumo at that point

I do, but I also acknowledge that sumo is heavily subsidised by the Japanese government for being a part of Japanese history, culture, and religion. Without that subsidisation, sumo wouldn't exist in any professional capacity because fans (especially gaijin) don't want to watch 5 second long fights; they want 5-10 minute long fights with multiple rounds since that's what they're used to watching. And that's before getting into the stigma about sumo wrestlers just being fatsos.

At that point you're just trying to recreate mma instead of focusing on sumo's unique areas, which you'd rather dilute in search of some nebulous, assumed audience somewhere. Should instead be looking for people that would be sumo fans, rather than try to be something it isnt.

Drop those kachi klash picks
Onosato (praying promotion hangover doesnโ€™t hit)
Ohsoma (donโ€™t know about this pick but I donโ€™t expect anyone else at those ranks to put up 10+)
Hakuoho ( I feel like Dan will get tested no way her gets 11+ right?)
Takerufuji (self explanatory heโ€™s not high so he should feast on scrubs)
Kusano (these hot shot prospects always put up 10+ from these ranks so I think heโ€™s the safest bet for 10+)

Gaga was a massive chad, he just went a bit too far for his own good in putting on weight. Nobody remembers him from his early days when he was fairly average looking or maybe only slightly on the fat side, everyone only remembers the 220kg version of him.
Heres a pic when he was only on his way to becoming a ridiculous caricature, but hadn't reach full fatso yet.

I think 30s ad/hour is the lower amount of ads the streamers can set to their stream. Maybe that's the case for the channel I watch. Also, Alternate Player for Twitch is the only Twitch extension I use and it bypass the ads to some extent by lowering the resolution to 360p while the ad is happening in the background. Yeah it's not perfect, but it just werks.

I'd rather have NHK upgrade Grand Sumo Highlights.
Remove the Highlights from the title, make it the Grand Sumo Show.
Have the show be one hour, cover interesting Juryo and other lower division fights, keep some of the ceremonial stuff in,
Have a live show for one hour every other day.
I'd have no need to fuck around with streams and streamers anymore.
One can dream.

Realistically, NHK will never do it. Even though they have English coverage, they're so up their own ass in the stereotypical Japanese way that it's more likely that God reaches down and touches his finger to an Abema executive's forehead, giving him a divine moment of clarity where he realizes that gaijin want to watch sumo.

The memory that sticks out most to me is when I was on a cruise and went to the buffet. The moment food was placed into the trays they scurried over like insects and took more food than they could ever eat all while pushing and shoving everyone including young girls. Watching them finish eating and leave with near full plates of food left on their tables made me seethe.
Multiple other offenses ive seen too like butting in line, touching art in museums, and jumping over guard rails/fences in botanical gardens to get better pictures. Very rude and self centred people. Please keep sending young chinese women to our colleges though <3.

The American stereotype that I remember being completely accurate is Americans saying what city, and state they are from. Every other foreigner said the country they came from.
One was loud as fuck telling his stories in the cafe. Everyone in the building got to listen to this dude talking about how he got on the wrong shinkansen, and how noone in the history of the world has ever made that mistake before.

Americans I did hardly see, and not outside of Tokyo. other ones I met were decent.

Brits were fucking eeeverywhere tho. Damn near every white person I saw was British. I know it's a bit ridiculous to blame foreigners for not understanding customs, and Japan isn't some mystical place where everything is perfect, but fuck it seemed like any time someone wasn't respecting the norms, or even trying to respect the status quo it was a white Brit.
Loud. Wearing shoes indoors. Singing in public. etc.

Chinese, and jungle asians were really only annoying due to the volume, and their language grating on the ears.

Which honestly is probably why Brits(Murricans to a point) are annoying. Purely volume, and just sticking out due to look, and nature. Not like they were truly disruptive. Just gay tourist types.

You're right about the Americans. I was at the May basho and a group of them from Atlanta were trying to stop locals outside the Kokugikan while the locals were excitedly waiting with cameras out to take photos and cheer on their favourite rikishi entering the arena. Just distracting them, laughing at their gay american jokes, being loud as fuck, and trying to get content for their youtube channel. God I fucking hated them. The trip was perfect beside that memory. Luckily I didn't bump into a lot of other tourists though.

Going in ultra low seems suicidal to me. Has anyone tried grappling Onosato from the side and trying to spin him around? It's a total clown technique usually only seen when a twig in Jonidan meets a superheavy, but it just might work if executed correctly. You'd only get one chance to get the right positioning, but you only get one chance against Onosato anyway.

If you want to compare the entirety of their makuuchi careers then Onosato has won 4 of the last 9 and Horseryu 2 of the last 30.
Onosato also has more sansho prizes than Horseryu despite far fewer chances as well as more victories over yokozunas, something Horseryu has never achieved despite having had many more chances.

It took Hakuho 13 basho in the top division to win his first Makuuchi yusho. We're in for an excellent decade of sumo with Onosato and Hoshoryu trying to out do and kill each other.

Either he isn't good at training or his recruiting can't get him anyone trainable, either way he has been at it a long time with very little success. I guess his stable is just going to cease to be when he turns 65, its pretty much too late for him to recruit anyone who could make it to the top ranks and retire before he turns 65 himself. That shouldn't help his ability to recruit talent.

I still think he should target high school and university football players and play up how the Hawaiian yokozuna did football and how it helped them with sumo (even if Akebono did baseball instead of football and Musashimaru himself did greco-roman in addition to football). Try and recruit the linemen who have no future in pro football and try to convince them they can use their linemen skills to get a quick rise.
