Since Endou got surgery, that means we have a proper readout of the condition of his knee for the first time in like ten years.
Endou's diagnosis is:
>Torn ACL, torn MCL, medial and lateral meniscus tears, arthritis
The certificate recommends 2 months recovery in hospital, which is downright reasonable for a sumo certificate.

The average new viewer has no idea what the difference between good and bad sumo looks like.

Just get some talent from olympic wrestling, judo, bökh, gay turkish oil wrestling, etc. It adds some 'battle of the martial arts' flavor, like early UFC.
Maybe add weight classes and definitely ban megafatties, normies just think it's gross or funny.
Remove all the rituals so it's bearable to watch live.
Poach Hoshoryu.
And actually sell and market it outside of Japan.

I always thought about this too, but I think the biggest hurdle isn't about the sport itself but actually making it profitable, boxing and ufc which are other 1v1 sports are drenched in the most scummy sponsorships imaginable, if hakuho wants to have sumo sponsored by DUDE WIPES and have their salaries bankrolled by crypto and sports gambling then i'm sure it could be "profitable" but it wouldn't be sumo at that point

I do, but I also acknowledge that sumo is heavily subsidised by the Japanese government for being a part of Japanese history, culture, and religion. Without that subsidisation, sumo wouldn't exist in any professional capacity because fans (especially gaijin) don't want to watch 5 second long fights; they want 5-10 minute long fights with multiple rounds since that's what they're used to watching. And that's before getting into the stigma about sumo wrestlers just being fatsos.

At that point you're just trying to recreate mma instead of focusing on sumo's unique areas, which you'd rather dilute in search of some nebulous, assumed audience somewhere. Should instead be looking for people that would be sumo fans, rather than try to be something it isnt.

Watching them finish eating and leave with near full plates of food left on their tables made me seethe.
Multiple other offenses ive seen too like butting in line, touching art in museums, and jumping over guard rails/fences in botanical gardens to get better pictures. Very rude and self centred people. Please keep sending young chinese women to our colleges though <3.

The American stereotype that I remember being completely accurate is Americans saying what city, and state they are from. Every other foreigner said the country they came from.
One was loud as fuck telling his stories in the cafe. Everyone in the building got to listen to this dude talking about how he got on the wrong shinkansen, and how noone in the history of the world has ever made that mistake before.

Americans I did hardly see, and not outside of Tokyo. other ones I met were decent.

Brits were fucking eeeverywhere tho. Damn near every white person I saw was British. I know it's a bit ridiculous to blame foreigners for not understanding customs, and Japan isn't some mystical place where everything is perfect, but fuck it seemed like any time someone wasn't respecting the norms, or even trying to respect the status quo it was a white Brit.
Loud. Wearing shoes indoors. Singing in public. etc.

Chinese, and jungle asians were really only annoying due to the volume, and their language grating on the ears.

Which honestly is probably why Brits(Murricans to a point) are annoying. Purely volume, and just sticking out due to look, and nature. Not like they were truly disruptive. Just gay tourist types.

Reminder that since winning in November, Zak's overall winrate is 45.6%. To put this into perspective, that comes out at 6.84 wins per basho. He's hanging onto Ozeki by the skin of his fucking teeth. Kadoban this basho is a certainty. Honestly he should just kyujo and spend this time recovering.

you seem to be irritated by the fact that dan beat an ozeki and wish to minimize the win, but beating ozekis & yokozunæ are the main criterion for the shukun-sho, so its a big win regardless your dissatisfaction.

It's expected that Onosato will yusho before Hoshoryu. Onosato has won 4 of the last 9, while Hoshoryu has only won 2 of the last 12. The hope is that the blood of Uncle is rising in Hoshoryu and we can bear witness to glorious violence once again.

>Onosato has won 4 of the last 9
4 of the last 7.
If you want to compare the entirety of their makuuchi careers then Onosato has won 4 of the last 9 and Horseryu 2 of the last 30.
Onosato also has more sansho prizes than Horseryu despite far fewer chances as well as more victories over yokozunas, something Horseryu has never achieved despite having had many more chances.

Goeido was a far better Ozeki than Zak. Did you know that Zak actually won the award for most wins of any rikishi in 2024, beating out Onosato? Of course you don't, why would you?
Anonymous United Kingdom No.149779287
>>149779221
I thought of 9 because that's how long he's been in Makuuchi but yeah, you're right, it's 4 out of 7. God what a fucking ridiculous rikishi. It took Hakuho 13 basho in the top division to win his first Makuuchi yusho. We're in for an excellent decade of sumo with Onosato and Hoshoryu trying to out do and kill each other.

Either he isn't good at training or his recruiting can't get him anyone trainable, either way he has been at it a long time with very little success. I guess his stable is just going to cease to be when he turns 65, its pretty much too late for him to recruit anyone who could make it to the top ranks and retire before he turns 65 himself. That shouldn't help his ability to recruit talent.

On the training front, it makes sense that Musashimaru wouldn't have much insight to give people considering he's a humongous fucker that did humongous fucker things. When his strategy was "be absolutely ginormous and overpower people using my absurd size" he likely doesn't have much to teach people who aren't also humongous fuckers.
Anonymous United Kingdom No.149780591 >>149780679
>>149780549
And on the recruiting front he didn't go to school in Japan and is probably completely in the dark about how to find talent before the other stables snap it up and apparently he never thought up Hakuho's idea of starting his own tournament to get the talent to come to him.
Anonymous United States No.149780679 >>149780860

I still think he should target high school and university football players and play up how the Hawaiian yokozuna did football and how it helped them with sumo (even if Akebono did baseball instead of football and Musashimaru himself did greco-roman in addition to football). Try and recruit the linemen who have no future in pro football and try to convince them they can use their linemen skills to get a quick rise.
