This seems classy now but will be extremely weird a few years from now when people have to be reminded that he wasn't a club legend but just a good player who crashed his sports car.
Anonymous Austria No.149738215
All it takes to get your number retired in the UK is killing yourself and your brother crashing in a car you cannot handle on a public road while going over the speed limit overtaking another car and endangering those passengers too?

Anyway I checked out England's retired number and only three in the entire country are because of their actual achievements with the club:
>Bobby Moore at West Ham
>Jack Lester at Chesterfield
>Jude Bellingham at Birmingham City (who played one season at Birmingham lol)
Every single other one is because they died while still playing for the club. Some are due to health conditions (I can understand retiring for this) but majority are either for causing road accidents or even suicide in one case

>β€œLiverpool FC tweets are communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist propaganda, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine Liverpool FC tweets, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

I like Liverpool but this is a bit ridiculous.
I was ok with the idea of temporarily retiring #20 and making it a special number from here onwards. Retiring it altogether is weird. Diogo wasn't a club legend and even if he wasn't speeding (I'll be really surprised if he wasn't), retiring a number every time one of your players dies will leave you with no numbers in the future.

There's no evidence of speeding, in fact it's already been contradicted by an eyewitness. The 75mph limit is more than enough for a tyre blowout to destroy a Lambo, and even if they were going beyond that to overtake, does anyone who's ever actually driven a car consider that reckless driving? It was a straight section of road with 2 lanes and little traffic, there was no reason to believe going over the speed limit to overtake was inherently dangerous provided your car doesn't experience a sudden catastrophic defect. If you're in a rented vehicle you just have to hope and assume the hire place has done its due diligence on the safety of the car.
