The old iteration of the Club World Cup was tolerable because it was the champions of each continent.

This shitshow has been embarrassing because of the teams involved, the lack of fans, and the fact that it was inexplicably held concurrently with the Concacaf Gold Cup and regular MLS season

The old version was played at the same time as the Premier League or La Liga, I remember Liverpool who had like the best streak ever had to lose it because they were forced to play with their youngsters against Villa because they had to play games in consecutive days

The CL is far less legitimate.

And make no mistake, that is by design. those 8 group games will be shipped off overseas within 5 years. the argument will be that since no one team plays the same 7 fixtures, the necessity of them being home and away is no longer there. you'll get your last 16, quarter and semi home leg, and you'll be happy with it.
