>>149776201 (OP)First of all, sports itself aren't dumb for sure. Sports are human creativity combined with our natural drive to compete and move. It is a wonderful thing that we came up with all these different "games" and concepts and traditions, and denying them would mean denying an innate aspect of being human
You want to talk about the fan culture, I assume. You know what, I kind of get it. Modern pro sports are for the most part rootless, there are next to no ties to the actual fan community. It is fair to criticize that. But as other anons have pointed out, it's the desire to compete that goes this far. Sports clubs used to be more local and approachable, so were the players. That's what is remembered and passed down to a degree. The games themselves have brought forth clubs and traditions, and people stick with them. We're not really waging war all the time, this is the harmless version of the need to compete - combined with the necessary feeling of belonging everyone has.
When "my" club plays, I know that the players are mostly from elsewhere and not very loyal for the most part (that used to be a bit different a few decades ago), but they still represent my club and my city and other people I like, past and present. And that's why I like seeing them do well, it remains an emotional thing. Nothing wrong with that
