If you extrapolate Dan's current win rate over 3 basho it comes out at 33.75 wins, and that doesn't factor in that his next 7 matches are easier. Think of him as only being two months behind WTK's Ozeki run.

They won't be necessarily, guys with strong starts get penalized with tougher schedules at the end of the 2nd week. He will probably miss some of his remaining joi matchups in favor of lower rankers with better records, but if that allows him to dodge Kinbozan it might be in his favor.

In May Ura was 16th ranked on the banzuke and he faced undefeated ozeki Onosato day 9. This time around Tamawashi is ranked 16th and he is facing a 2-6 M3 on day 9 regardless having a much better record than what Ura carried into the ninth day in May.
Why are they playing softball with Tamawashi?

Thatโ€™s not really meaningful, though, since in Jan he was in Juryo. In March, he went 1-1 against sanyaku ranked wrestlers and faced no one else in the joi.
In May, he went 0-3 against sanyaku opponents.

What weโ€™re seeing now is something different and much more impressive. This could easily be the start of an ozeki run unless the other top rankers figure out a way to beat him.

What worries me a little is his size. There hasnโ€™t been a Yokozuna as short as him since Wakanohana and heโ€™s not heavy either. If the guys at the top figure out his tricks, then heโ€™ll be capped.

Expecting to beat the same guy the same way twice in a row presumes that the other guy isn't a learning creature. Onosato needs to develop a variety of different fallback procedures for the occasions when he isn't able to win quickly via overwhelming power. Yesterday Hakuoho beat him off the tachiai and that was all it took to panic him into giving away a loss. He might've kept on pushing or done something else, but it seems like he doesn't have anything else other than 'pull immediately if not moving forward'

I can't get my kanji shit working while playing Euro Truck Sim 2, but it basically means "upper rank". Think of the #1 sumo wrestler in Japan. Who does he fight for the next 15 days? It must be #2-16. Thus, the top 16 is called the "joi", and anyone in there is basically in the middle of a meat grinder where only the truly worthy can shine. Takerufuji failed the test in May. Aonishiki is blossoming like some nip orchid shit. Hakuoho is doing decently.

Yes, as mentioned above it means "upper/higher rank." "Joi-jin" are all the people high enough rank that they're expected to fight yokozuna. "Joi-maegashira" are specifically the maegashira in joi-jin, and is important because that's the lowest that an ozeki run can begin. "Joi-makushita" is also used to describe the makushita wrestlers eligible for promotion to juryo depending on their score, which is important because juryo is the lowest of the salaried divisions, but the collective term "joi-jin" doesn't include them.

I saw Abi at a kombini in Nagoya yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didnโ€™t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, โ€œOh, like youโ€™re doing now?โ€ I was taken aback, and all I could say was โ€œHuh?โ€ but he kept cutting me off and going โ€œhuh? huh? huh?โ€ and stepping aside in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen katsu sandos in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like โ€œSir, you need to pay for those first.โ€ At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the sandos and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually โ€œto prevent any electrical infetterence,โ€ and then turned around and rested me. I donโ€™t even think thatโ€™s a word. After she scanned each sando and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by nodawaing her really hard.

funny replies, but I think it'll be forever a mistery
having great genes and starting with training early is not exclusive to hakuho. He was like a fucking genius in some regards. Its weird to say that he was the greatest rikishi to have ever lived and probably will there ever be (Tanikaze and Raiden "cheated" their winning records by only fighting two tournaments of 10 fights per year instead of the moderm hell banzuke system), but the sport and the scene is much better now without him. A yokozuna dominating too fucking hard was not healthy

Of the remaining competitors in the leading group only Onosato and Dan have a realistic chance of being in the lead at the end of senshuraku.
For everyone else some sort of miraculous luck would need to come into play to get them there. Even KiriSHITma, the next most likely candidate to show up for the trophy or at least make a playoff, would need to pretty much run the table through the toughest part of his schedule which isn't about to happen without some sort of unusually fortuitous circumstances coming into play. And everyone still in the running below KiriSHITma would need even less likely breaks to make it.

Because it killed attendance when he was the sole dominant yokozuna. It only picked back up when Harumafuji and especially Kisenosato rose up to challenge him, even if it took Kisenosato another five years to finally make it himself. Yes you can argue that the fault lies in ozeki that couldn't rise to challenge him, but the fact remains that the period where Hakuho was sole yokozuna was a period of attendance decline.
