Today, we celebrate one of the GREAT stages of the year as well as my ascent to the TOP of the Veloleague with another /WORLD TOUR WINE/ !!

Today's koers ran directly thru Chateauneuf-du-Pape; attention payers will remember the SENSATIONAL bottle of 2015 Mas de Boislauzon CdP Tintot from Paris-Nice (which encouraged me to buy three bottles of the 2016 vintage). As I do not like to repeat myself, we have decide to find a bottle from the mythical appellation of Mont VENTOUX itself!

Famille Perrin La Vielle Ferme Cotes du Ventoux 2023 ($10.99)

Famille Perrin is one of the great winemakers of the Southern Rhone, with a collection of wines and styles ranging from this bottle up to their Grand Vin -- Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I have never had La Vielle Ferme before, but I do admit that I enjoy their "budget" Cotes du Rhone (Coudoulet de Beaucastel) as one of my go-to wines. La Vielle Ferme is grown on the slopes of Ventoux, and we have a typical Rhone blend to enjoy, although with a bit of a different mix - Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, and Syrah.

Pours quite a dark ruby. The nose is surprisingly good - fresh raspberry, fresh strawberry, light licorice, and just a touch of bacon and pepper (I wonder how much Syrah is blended). There is some complexity to the nose, but definitely fruit forward. The palate is bone dry, with dusty tannins. There is a mรฉlange of fruit and savory notes fighting through the tannins. The finish is short, without much acidity. The blend is great and obviously a well-made wine, but it is a bit hollow.

Boy, I was so hopeful based on the nose, but the structure definitely falls apart. For $11, this is great, a great food wine. I will probably stick with Coudoulet as my go-to Cotes du Rhone (which is like $35) but this is totally serviceable and widely-available.

Introduction by Antoine Vayer:

Two monstrous records were broken today by Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, our two usual mutants.

1ยฐ) The ascent of the Ventoux from Saint Estรจve to Chalet Reynard, 9.53 km through the woods at 9.19%, which had belonged to Nairo Quintana

since 2020 in 28min05sec. Today, it's four seconds better

(28min01sec) for the Vingegaard-Pogacar tandem, averaging 20.4 km/h

for 464 Watts Etalon.

2ยฐ) The ascent of the Ventoux from Saint Estรจve to the

summit, 15.7 km in the open with a 10 km/h headwind on the top

at 8.54%, a record that had belonged to Iban Mayo since 2004 in 45min 47sec. That's one minute better for Pogacar-Vingegaard, or 21 km/h for 455 Watts Etalon.

Incredible. But that's not all. Behind these two

mutants, other performances seem supernatural to us, such as, for

example, those of Ben Healy and Valentin Paret-Peintre. We can't give you

any figures yet. We'll be taking our time to check

and refine them. We'll also be counting the incredible and repeated

attacks at 500-600 watts by the Frenchman and the Irishman on the climb.
Anonymous Germany No.149910419 >>149910640 >>149910654 >>149911622
>>149910412
The debauchery of power

of the two mutants is astonishing. It's humanly impossible. There's something

. The behavior of some of the other racers,

from time to time, seems surreal. There's something else going on here too. Perhaps not

itself.

They say thieves are always one step ahead. Or

several. Perhaps one can be found in

allosteric hemoglobin modifiers. They seem to be particularly effective, yet off the radar of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which is looking the other way. Practical.

Marc Kluszczynski, our anti-doping controller, explains

. He's a pharmacist who has been writing the doping section of

Sport et Vie for many years. He is a regular contributor to cyclisme-dopage.com. He

knows his stuff.

And what do you think?

I think it will age very well, most of the belief its a poor field is just that all the secondary contenders are young/unproven. Onley, big kev, and Lipo all look like they will continue to improve, and Johannessen and Healy are 25 and 24 respectively. Even CRod might eventually git gud again. In 10 years when all/most of these guys have had a high-level career it will look much much stronger

while it's possible that they all dope, breaking records is not exactly "evidence", because there are 1000 different things now, every rider has a diet built around his target, has the exact amount of muscles they need etc. The bikes are also much better than back then and the suites are more aero too. So less than a 3-5% improvement isn't really that huge overall.

tour is just the most kino gt and its not even close, breakaways dont slurp. giro breakaways are pure slurpage, and gc been a fucking joke for years. remember bernal being a bitch towed by martinez to a victory and almost losing to 34 yo caruso? roglic struggling to beat a grandpa g? this year with the retarded boomer and zoomer throwing it away to a C tier GC contender. LOL giro is such a dogshit race.
shitalians will never recover.

What general area out of interest? Things are getting significantly more dangerous on the roads here in south England. Depending the area you can adapt however. You will need action cameras, they're also good because many divers will see it. Also garmin varia radar, indicates when a car is behind you.

Our drivers are getting far more aggressive, especially with influx of foreign nations who are very unaware and used to driving or motorbiking shit holes like india. You have to ride defensively or travel to ride. I was hit twice in 4 days last year, both aggression and not just stupidity. People are psychotic.

There is a huge indoor culture through zwift which is great fun. So 1-2 outdoor a week and rest indoor would be fine. Bike skills like handling are vital if you're a runner, because likely you'll ride fast very soon and if you can't corner or emergency stop then take it easier first few months. Especially rain.

Sigma sports probably best retailer right now. Decathlon is very up and coming, they have exceptional products for great prices. 105 shimano drive train disc bike would be a good start. Either carbon or aluminium. 2k starter bike will be a good decision. Most bikes are much the same at that price so anything you like. And get a bike fit, non-negotiable if you want to be comfortable.

I think there is some genuine truth in to vismoid tactics of winding pogi up. He's definitely going down the dark timeline path like Lance. Blacklisting riders? Even if it's funny, UAE and mudslime money are ruining and have ruined sports so on that grounds alone fuck team UAE. They're killing footie, tried to kill golf, killed snooker, killing athletics, so don't expect cycling to be any different. I expect jayco/alula or perhaps a new team to become a fully Saudi financed team in the near future. Pog's trying to keep his seethe under wraps but it's becoming more evident there is venom being fuelled in to him in the team culture. Meanwhile seems Vismoids stick to the plan and don't really care if it works or not. Jonas is an Alps rider and we'll have a definitive answer tomorrow after 3 horse climbs.

I think that's mostly because Europe is populated everywhere, we don't really have any proper wilderness outside of scandinavia and possbly eastern europe. America from what I've seen on google street view seems to be either middle of nowhere with no houses as far as the eye can see, or suburbs.

The factor looks nice, cannot go wrong with specialized, it's light and probably not super aero but I'd wager it feels really, really nice and is still aero. Expensive as fuck though. Van Rysel looks like pure sex but it's heavy, 1-1.5kg heavier than most others. They seem to be really well priced, if I hadn't just gotten a bike I would probably look to a van rysel. Seems to be the best up and coming bike brand. Decathlon pro team are probably going to drive a lot of innovation for the van rysel bikes.

I cycled a decent amount. My daily route is the hills in golf courses and residential areas in the rich suburbs outside the city. The drivers here in the Tesla and BMWs are mostly chill, the most dangerous are the landscaping trucks. Early on the weekends is great though. I've biked plenty in the Appalachian area which i liked a lot. Plenty of roads that hardly get any traffic. Of course you need a car to get to them though. Colorado was probably the worst for drivers and traffic, but the most scenic climbs. On famous roads like pikes peak or Mt Evans most are good and even some drivers will cheer you on and stuff because it blows fat Americans mind someone would try riding a bike up a mountain.

this is just basically an OEM
most brands are essentially OEM

here's how carbon bicycle manufacturing works:
you have a company funded by investors
company pays marketers and industrial designers to come up with a vibe
the industrial designers are the 'engineers' at these companies
they come up with a certain look they want the bikes to have because it makes them look cool, fast, aero, etc
they model the frame up in CAD and send that to a factory in China
China factory gets the CAD, they give it to real engineers whom they employ, who then go about figuring out how to manufacture that frame to the industrial designers desires
the engineers in the factory do all the actual engineering of the frame to get it to fit to the aesthetics the IDs and marketers want
the factory then makes the frame, paints the brand logo on it ships it back

Yeah maybe he could on the easier stages. You'd need a serious amount of recovery from surges unless it's one of the very easy stages. We've seen it get really strung out the past few years on simple stages. I don't know his watts but I remember he did fairly well at nats. But finnish nats are very different to the biggest race in the world where 18 teams fight to get a rider in a break + fight to keep riders out the break.

I can't see the peak powers though that's all that matters. My dad could handle 4hr at 240w. Could he handle the surges which force you into 400w for 10 minutes? No.

It depends on what the surges and terrain is like. Because if Martinez suffers greatly at the start of some stages I'd struggle to see an amateur aka finbert hanging on too. He probably could do a stage, maybe a few if it's not too hard and it's flat. But if he could handle them all then get him a pro contract asap.

It's about your 3-15 minute powers at the start nothing else, most here could cruise on long flat days for a few hours until it heats up.

Did you look at the full table?
The Factor Ostro VAM, Van Rysel RCR, Giant Propel Advanced SL, S-Works Tarmac SL8 are all lighter and 10 Watts faster than the Look 795 BladeRS.

I get the impression that Look and Time bikes are very well manufactured, particularly in terms of the carbon layup, but their designs are slightly subpar in terms of aero performance and weight.

UAE screwed up the Ventoux stage. After the kino of Vingegaard attacking several times, and Pogacaranaging to follow him, Pogacar sprints for *5th*. Anticlimactic, and all because the breakshitters weren't kept in line by (that day very aggressive) Pollitt.
