The next in the sequence would be this basho, as Onosato's 10-4 can't catch up to Kotoshoho's 12-2.

>He defeats all his opponents

>He only has three losses
>Enough to lose the basho on the final day

If Takayasu "Zoomer Destroyer" defeats Kotoshoho, it could be the end. Even if Aonishiki doesn't defeat Kusano, the latter would stand between Kotoshoho and victory. Losing the basho in literally the last match must be devastating; we really are in the twilight of sumo...

It was because Miyabiyama's promotion to ozeki was controversial because some JSA directors thought he was too inexperienced in the top division and had major flaws in his fighting style (bad tachi-ai, weak belt fighting technique) that they didn't approve of. He got the bare minimum of votes needed (7/10) to get ozeki because he was given the benefit of the doubt by having enough wins, then proceeded to have a bad ozeki career where he never got double digit wins and lost ozeki after eight basho. When Miyabiyama got 14-1, he was only offered ozeki on the condition that he got 11+ wins the next basho.

>If Shishi wins today he will likely stay in makuuchi
Nah, I bet they dump him. He's at M17 west and the best he can do is a 7-8, which SHOULD be grounds for demotion. Regardless, you could be right since the JSA pulls some weird shit out of their ass from time to time.

it should be, but only will be if there are enough records in juryo qualified to be promoted above him, which probably will not be the case.
