Why Arsenal chose Gyokeres over Sesko
>Arsenal’s recruitment operation has been led by Berta, who was appointed as sporting director in March in large part because of his experience of negotiating transfers during his 12 years at Atletico Madrid. This has effectively been Berta’s personal project, and the Italian devised a multi-pronged strategy that was unlike anything Arsenal have seen before in recent seasons.
>Berta spent the first part of this summer window working on numerous deals for numerous strikers at once. This was not a case of Arsenal identifying one target and then simply pursuing that player until an agreement was reached. Sesko and Watkins remained in the fold for weeks, and Telegraph Sport understands that multiple other centre-forwards across Europe were also contacted.
>The benefit of pricing up different potential options is that it allowed Arsenal to make as informed a decision as possible when choosing their forward. But such an approach also has risks.
>A few weeks ago, for example, Sesko and Gyokeres were both confident that they were the preferred candidate. In playing his transfer game, Berta had to ensure he was not also playing with the hearts of these men. Only Sesko, who Telegraph Sport understands was indeed the preferred target for many involved in recruitment at Arsenal, can truly say whether Berta succeeded on that front.
>>149967778>Why did Arsenal ultimately decide to prioritise Gyokeres, who was always Berta’s preferred pick? One factor is the price: Gyokeres was cheaper than Sesko, partly because he is five years older.>Another obvious factor behind Arsenal’s decision is that the Sweden international made it absolutely clear how desperately he wanted the move. Gyokeres and his representatives were willing to go to great lengths in order to make this transfer happen, including torching their relationship with Sporting. Rightly or wrongly, Sesko would never have done the same at Leipzig.>The feeling that Gyokeres is keen for bigger and better things has been underlined by his media appearances in recent weeks. This summer he has been the cover star of two magazines: France Football (in which he said “I am at the table of the best strikers in the world”) and the Scandinavian edition of Vogue. The timing of these things is rarely coincidental.

A year ago, few foresaw this outcome. Before Berta’s appointment in March, Gyokeres was not someone who figured prominently on Arsenal’s recruitment lists.
Given his goalscoring feats for Sporting, the now 26-cap Sweden international was on their radar. When assessed by Berta’s predecessor Edu and his recruitment staff, however, Gyokeres was profiled as a secondary-tier player — one who could be complementary to Kai Havertz, but was not necessarily an upgrade over the German. His physical attributes and finishing prowess were not in doubt, but he did not look an obvious fit for Arsenal’s game model under Arteta.
The preferred target at that stage was RB Leipzig’s Sesko — a deal Arsenal had explored in the summer of 2024, and planned to return to this year.
In March, Edu’s interim successor Jason Ayto was planning a visit to Germany to try to make advances in that direction. It appeared Arsenal were set for the summer of Sesko.
Then, at the end of that month, Berta was appointed, and the dynamic changed.
Ayto’s Germany trip was shelved, and Gyokeres’ name came firmly into contention. Berta was a longstanding admirer of the player, and felt he could be the forward Arsenal need to help them end their current five-year wait for silverware.
>Sesko’s handlers were wary of committing early, too. They did not want to close down their options, and took an aggressive negotiating position in talks with Arsenal — which did not go down well in north London.
Sesko's camp fumbled it so hard.
>>149968048>Limited progress was made. In terms of the fee Leipzig demanded, Sesko’s salary expectations and associated commission, the cost was too high for what Arsenal considered a development project. Sesko’s potential is clear, but Arsenal are in a phase that requires immediate impact.they lost

Arsenal still have Eberechi Eze high in their thinking, as exclusively revealed.
Some initial talks have now taken place with Crystal Palace, who made it clear Eze's £60m+£8m release clause would need triggering or matching.
#AFC now considering whether to make a bid, and try at a lower number to test that position.
Eze remains keen on a move.
>Arteta, however, still needed to be convinced.
>Throughout the process of Arsenal’s hunt for a striker, the manager’s preferences have evolved.
>His admiration for Alexander Isak has been consistent, but once he’d helped Newcastle qualify for next season’s Champions League, Arsenal felt that signing would be beyond them. By the time Isak made it clear he wanted to leave Newcastle in late July, Arsenal had committed to alternative plans.
>In January, Arteta had been fully behind Arsenal’s pursuit of Watkins, but ultimately the club were not prepared to meet Aston Villa’s £60million asking price

>Agreeing personal terms with Gyokeres was relatively straightforward — throughout the process, he showed a clear determination to move to Arsenal. They also found Hasan Cetinkaya, his agent, straightforward and easy to deal with. They were impressed that he and his client committed so thoroughly to Gyokeres joining Arsenal. It’s unusual for a player of this calibre to refuse to entertain offers from other clubs, but the Swede was insistent: it would be Arsenal and only Arsenal.
where is that canadian turk poster
>Arsenal have landed a centre-forward with a remarkable resume. His last two seasons have yielded 97 goals and 28 assists in just 102 appearances. Arsenal see Gyokeres as a dynamic, dominant attacker — an aggressive runner and direct ball-carrier. They admire his movement and work-rate, both on and off the ball. Crucially, they also think he has the personality to handle the pressure and deliver match-winning moments. Gyokeres’ confidence is underlined by his decision to take the number 14 shirt once worn by Arsenal’s record goalscorer, Thierry Henry.

My understanding is that there has been informal dialogue between Arsenal and Crystal Palace for the transfer of Eze very very recently.
The player is clear..Arsenal is my dream choice. His camp feel optimistic as things stand.
Some sources have suggested the release clause is technical and requires it to be paid in a set timeframe (2 years) but these things are so confidential that one cant be entirely sure.
Clubs prefer interested parties approach the selling club directly to discuss these things with honour and dignity to find an agreement as opposed to unsettling a player. Eze loves Palace and will want it all handled properly as it has been. The MGW is a case to be studied in this regard of what not to do.
There is a long way to go for this file to reveal itself properly, its important to follow it step by step but things seem positive as of today. There are some fantastic journalists reporting on it currently. Support them.
Health permitting I will try my best to give updates as and when

>>149969879Teams with a low block have given us issues because havertz doesn't have that killer instinct to attack a ball in the box (many such cases of saka crossing a ball in and nobody making the run). With gyokeres he's a natural target which should also help with keeping teams from doubling up on our wingers. Missing piece of the puzzle is eze. His control in tight spaces will be crucial against shitter teams parking the bus. Martinelli just crosses and prays with little end product usually.
>>149969879will be interesting to see how arteta adapts to gyokeres, still reckon sesko would have suited the way he wants to play currently better
Arsenal remain in contact with Eberechi Eze’s camp since June as the player is keen on the move.
No club to club talks yet with Palace as Arsenal work on outgoings as priority now…
…with Reiss Nelson to Fulham expected to be next move.
(@FabrizioRomano)
FYI, Gyökeres is not a technical player by any means. He's a well prepared, no nonsense, 4-4-2, brexit, physical, deep-going, power forward for fast transitions, has a great, hard shot as well, suitable for cutting inside. A Swedish Vardy in many ways (similar career path).
If he can adapt to possession based football under sharteta etc. is something he'll need to develop under Sharteta. But if he gets the ball near the net, it's almost an automatic goal.
Sharteta hopefully finally understood he can't just play one style of football relying on Havertz lack of finishing
>>149970079Similar to pep with haaland in many ways. I remember when he signed fabregas only to end up playing him as a false 9. As soon as he toned down his ego and accepted a true powerhouse striker (which is the meta in modern football) he went on to win the treble.
>>149970173I agree with the bald fraud comparison, but the difference between Haaland and Gyökeres is that Gyökeres career path is much more similar to Henrik Larsson with Celtic then going to Barcelona/United.
Bangs in goals for the national team and a big fish in a small pond club, but can he do it in the biggest league for the biggest club, that's what we'll find out this season.
>>149970284Yeah I have faith. The system is well structured to feed gyokeres. Merino with 9 in 15 and havertz with 15 in the last 27. With eze coming in he should be feasting.
