Theres only 3-5 good midfielders as of pre-season and if you consider there to be 5 good ones you cant afford all of them, and if you can, then you can only afford to put a scarecrow up front. If you consider Wirtz might not fire 100% from the start, or play 90 min every game, and maybe Marmoush is a rotation risk, then arguably there is only 2 good midfield options in the whole game in Salad and Palmer. If youre unlucky then Palmer does nothing except when he gets a pen, and if youre really unlucky then Salad is old or gets his points absorbed and spread to others so you mostly wait for pens. Saka might lose penalties so hes not worth the price. This forces you to delude yourself into thinking players like Ndingo and Anderson are good or somehow value, when what they are is an everton mid on pens and a random forest midfielder.
Which means FPL thought but muh defensive contributions will mean people will fill in their midfield with Caicedo and Rice type players. But no, im going forward heavy because thats where the good and affordable / immediate value options are. fuck 3-5-2, this season is, obviously, 4-4-2, 3-4-3, or 4-3-3. Hell even 5-3-2 seems better to me than 3-5-2 spending every week hoping Ndongo (and Palmer) gets a penalty and anderson scraped together 2 DC points or whatever reddit shit hes supposed to be contributing with.
Midfield is so bad pre-season before I know whos nailed for City and if Wirtz is any good that I would play 4 or even 5 strikers if i could.
FPL is like yeah put the defensive midfield cuck and random nignog into your midfield you fucking schmuck and be happy when you get 2 dc points in midfield every 2-3 games and a penalty on the other guy every 5 games, but im not gonna play along with that like a total schmendrick.
Even in defense when the most expensive is 6M there will turn out to be essentials that show theres more value in defense than midfield atm.
Already is if dc points can make a 4.5-5M player have a 150+ point season.

generally i agree with you. there's really not many mid priced midfielders that you can put in your team and think yeah this is a good idea. seeing teams with rice and caicedo give me headache.
considering caicedo, he's a 5.5m player who got 98 points last season and got 42 dc points for a grand total of 140 points. for rice, a 6.5m player who got 127 points last season and got 16 dc points for a meagre 143 points. it makes no fucking sense seeing these players in teams and not just putting a defender in instead.
the most prudent thing seems to be filling up your backline with 4.5m players, with maybe one 5.0+ player, and rotating them based on fixtures, and then dumping all your money in strikers. i'm going to be 4-3-3 or 3-4-3, i've not made up my mind yet

It used to be similar but they have strayed further and further away from it. The main differences are:

I was just thinking to myself why not downgrade from Porro to Malo Gusto, save 0.5M, and then downgrade sanchez to a 4.5 GK, saving another 0.5M.
