Why is baseball so hard to get into? I'm not talking about the game itself, but rather the MLB league. A team plays over a hundred games per season. There is no way, for me at least, to be able to follow all of it and be able to hold a conversation with baseball fans. I liked the Mets (they were referenced a lot in Everybody Loves Raymond) and watched their games for a season. But I could only follow them and knew only them, their players and their games. It seems like, in order to follow baseball in America, you really need to dedicate your entire free time to just that.

You'd have to be a hardcore neet to watch every team. but if you follow your team you can watch every other team by proxy when they face each other.

You dont even need to watch every game for your favorite team. I'm a Dodgers fan and I only watch the KWABgers on the weekends because I dont want to stay up till 3am to see them win/lose. As you see games are rarely sold out except big ones or Saturday games.

the season structure is dreadful and doesn't know what it wants to accomplish. a marathon that lets everyone with a pulse into a glorified lottery after. it's why no pays attention closely more than the sport itself. every sport would be boring with it's layout

theres maybe like 4-6 weeks around august where people actually care about baseball, and thats only because there are no other sports on.

Very based

You just watch when you can. It's easy to catch up by checking the box scores of the games your missed. It's even easier now with social media. If you follow the Mets or MLB, you're going to see the important shit that happens. Maybe 1% of fans watch every game and I'd say 90% of the 1% are retired people who need something to keep them going.

mlb tv channel is the only way I see what's happening in games that don't have my team

it's pretty difficult even for Americans to really take it all in, it's why the game doesn't do well nationally anymore with so much more competition from other sports that are more easily digested. It's still a very popular sport locally but that's it, the vast majority of fans only watch and pay attention to their local and/or favorite team.

If you can get MLB.TV in your country that is a good way to watch any team whenever you want. Every morning they release a 40+ minute video called the Recap Rundown; it is the recap version of every game from the previous day.
Also, each game has a condensed version that is approximate 10 minutes, so you could watch every team in roughly 2 hours+ if every team plays.
Finally, here's a truck for your team.

Very sad what happened to america's pastime. Someone needs to step up and do some restructuring. After watching the Ken Burns baseball series it would honestly be a tragedy to have the sport relegated to the gutter completely

We can get that here and I've been considering it, since that would remove the problem with staying up all night to catch games.

I think it's totally worth it. I'm pretty sure if you have T-Mobile, you get it for free, if you have that where you live.
$150 for a year is insanely cheap if you consider how many regular season games there are.
On top of that, you'll have so much info, you could become a badass fantasy baseball player and win some bucks.

Baseballl is for listening to on the radio while you do something else and reading the box scores in the paper the next day

Best Mets OP! You’ve gotten good advice already. For me I just watch every Mets game when I can, and sometimes watch other teams if I have time and think it’s an interesting matchup. Caught the Rockies 17-16 walk off win the other night, pure kino. Just watch when you can and watch the highlights if you miss a game. I also like to watch the recap rundown on mlb.tv that shows a 3 min recap of every game that occurred the day prior.

you dont need to watch every single game. Watch when you can, look up scores on your phone, watch recaps/postgame coverage after, and follow the MLB IG/twitter(yes, theyre awful, I know) so you can lock in playoff races and standings, whos in the hunts, trades, etc. Postseason is really easy to follow, and definitely the most fun to watch

Baseball's based because teams with 57.5% win rates considered elite. It's the ultimate game of stats and averages and I love every moment of it. There's no bullshit teams winning 70% of their games like in most other major sports.

It’s not that hard to get into. My seven year old son can name almost any player in the league and his number. You don’t have to watch every single game. You watch the games you can, or listen on the radio if you can’t be near a tv, or just check the scores and standings later if you can’t do that. We are spoiled with easily accessible highlights online whenever we want to see them. Back in the day people got all their baseball info from newspapers.

You can listen on the radio or audio from a website or app. Some teams have good broadcasts and the Mets are one of them.

It's the best way to cap off a hard day's work, watching the game and relaxing in the evening before bed. I honestly don't dig the playoffs that much unless of course my team got in (I'm a Resd fan so I haven't caught the playoffs in years, '20 doesn't count) because by that point my mind is on football and getting ready for winter. But yeah baseball has been part of my summer routine my whole life.
