We just don't have enough money to keep our most talented players like before, and even so our league remains strong, with a variety of champions keeping things interesting, 12 big clubs instead of only a couple. Scripting has been a thing and continues to be thing since Xbox 360 era. PES 2017 had the best gameplay and AI of the Xbox One/PS4 era. From 2018 onwards, everything just got more "on rails" for lack of better words.

i still play PES 21 with mods from time to time, its the best football game even today and thats quite telling. The new FIFAs are a complete disaster, at least they used to be arcade fun back in the days but now its just meh, way too bloated, overcomplicated settings nobody asked for and awful gameplay.
