I don’t think they made him the antagonist. He was portrayed as a bit of lost soul, but a good man and a very talented driver. Considering the life Hunt lived, I think it is a fair assessment. Lauda also wasn’t the one gaining all the sympathy for his autism
The movie is about how different and yet close Lauda and Hunt were. They exaggerated the rivalry and pretended they were enemies for longer than they were, but the fact that Lauda was happy with the entire result and even the accuracy all in all speaks volumes. He liked Hunt a lot and wouldn’t have been silent about his friend being portrayed wrongly
