>>150147527No sports car racing for this weekend?
>>150147527thank you Anon.
thank you all Anons that help keep this general running in a somewhat organized way.
>>150147539Supercars is sports car racing-ish to me. but I kind of include touring cars in my definition of sports car racing. Trans-Am is also sports car racing-ish...
FYI the schedule for Saturday is changed, final practice is now 7:30 ET I think
>>150147539I'm sure there's something somewhere...
Singapore bro would have known...
>>150147539>>150147612>>150147552however, asscar is definitely not sports car racing, no matter how many road courses or street circuits they run.
God I love sprint car racing.
why are penske being assholes and stringing out the power decision?
>>150147634I'll try to watch the Knoxville Nationals Final later today, but I don't know how I follow up the race or who do I root for. I mostly watch sprint car races when a NASCAR driver or a former NASCAR driver appears there.
>>150147639it's shitty but it's not unexpected. after hanging onto Al Unser Jr. way too long back in the CART days, Roger would rather let go of a driver too early rather than than too late.
>>150147639it's shitty but it's not unexpected. after hanging onto Al Unser Jr. way too long back in the CART days, Roger would rather let go of a driver too early rather than too late.
>>150147632NASCAR would be more sports car-ish if they got rid of the damn stages. It would basically be a 3-hour long endurance race with stock cars.
>>150147744removing stages and playoffs are my conditions to even consider watching asscar again. I'm old enough to remember what it was like without those gimmicks.
I'm pissed that Supercars added a "Finals" system. asscar-esque bullshit.
>>150147684Picking a driver to root for is all up to you. Ask 100 people and you may get a hundred different answers. Honestly just watch more races, you will quickly get a feel and like some drivers more than others and some less so, but I respect all of them. Between driving styles and paint schemes, thereโs a lot going on. The skills and aggressiveness are always on display.

I can't tell if Corey Heim is a close 2nd prospect behind Zillisch or if he's just in an OP'd Yoder in a lower series. Not sure he'd have beat Ross or Bell straight up today, but his team kept him closer to the front and his equipment stayed together. He's obviously talented, I just hate how hard it is to judge Yoder drivers in Arca and Trucks cuz of the equip advantage.
>>150150271Heim is greatly outperforming his teammates in what should be mostly equal equipment and he usually looks good in xfinity.
He had a very embarrassing DNQ in Chicago for Cup but that's not representative of his talent.
fuck that car almost ended up on two wheels
i guess everyone risked a lot tonight for the big price
>>150150271Ross passed him in a Niece shitbox (that later fell apart) on one of those early restarts. Bell was the best truck in an underfunded Toyota team. Not that this takes away from Heim, but his truck really is just faster in that series. He's absolutely better than Herbst tho, so if that's the choice for 23XI it should be pretty easy, if it's a talent choice.
lol this restart procedure
>>150150677Not a big surprise, desu. Derpst spent almost his entire Xfinity career coming up short when he had a chance to win, he's got friends in high places who have gotten him rides his (lack of) talent can't match.
>>150147632sports cars are purebred closed-wheel prototypes. by their very nature, NASCAR (and GT3, and V8SC, and etc) are not sports cars. NASCAR and V8SC are touring cars, and GT3 is GT cars.

They just finished qualifying qualifying for the German Prototype Cup and there will be a million SRO races and probably some NLS/GT Masters this weekend. Without Singapore bro, IDK when any of those races are, but if you train your YouTube algorithm, your recommendations will be full of them.
https://www.youtube.com/live/gyX7c4JWwIc
>>150147684>I don't know how I follow up the race or who do I root for.The guy with the NAPA livery, of course!
NAPA sponsored cars are in a million series and they are typically pretty good. Otherwise, just pick something you like about a car/driver. Maybe a brand you like sponsors the car or the driver has a sick mullet or it's just a color you like. When I watch horse racing waiting for vrooms, I always pick the horse with the green number unless there is one with a particularly funny name. That's one thing that makes sports cars so easy to follow. We all probably have an opinion on Porache, Ferrari, Ford, ect. Honestly, I have a hard time keeping up with drivers, especially since they change teams all the time.Anyway, after a while, you'll learn who is who. Too bad I fell asleep before Knoxville really got going.
>>150147639>Why don't they want to fire psycho Will? It's like how you fire someone at the end of the work day on a friday so they just go home and have a normalish weekend instead of causing a scene on a Tuesday afternoon. They probably don't want him racing in their equipment for any more races than they have to with him knowing it's over.
Nobody delays telling good news.

>>150147913>turismo carreteraBased. I really like this series. I have trouble with the player, but I can usually get it to work. I especially like that they use the Jeep in line 6 cylinder engines and I think they have cool bodywork.

It's pretty encouraging to see how many talented young drivers we have coming up through the series.
absolute cinema porsche cup race, that was fun
>>150151390>GT3 is GT cars.I don't mean to argue, but I want to discuss the definition of some of these terms because I love cars so much.
Let's start with some definitions.
>A touring car is an automobile suitable for distance driving, historically referring to a large open car with a convertible top designed to seat four or more passengers, often featuring a tonneau for rear seating>Grand touring (GT) cars aredesigned for high-speed, long-distance driving, combining performance, luxury, and comfort.>A sports car isa type of automobile designed with an emphasis on dynamic performance, such as handling, acceleration, top speed, the thrill of driving, and racing capability.I would add to this that a sports car, with very rare exception, has (space for) exactly 2 seats and is not FWD.
Bearing in mind that most of these cars now purpose built race cars, to me, this means:
NASCAR is 100% a Stock Car/Touring Car series. No questions about that.
V8SC was a Touring series that morphed into a Grand Touring series as the market changes.
Prototype Sports Cars are the very definition of a sports car.
Now, the GT Sports Car class is where things get interesting. To begin, GT cars and Sports Cars are fairly different things with different characteristics and purposes. The category we recognize as GT sports car today has always been a crazy amalgamation of these two general types based on whatever the manufacturers were making and trying to promote. Examples of Sports Cars abound like Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, McLaren, Lamborghini, Viper, Ford GT, BMW Z4, Jaguar, Shelby Cobra, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin. While some examples of Touring Cars would be cars such as Bentley, Camaro, Mustang, BMW M3, Lexus RC and Nissian GT-R.

Here's some more history, the original Corvette was a copy of the Jaguar XK120.
So it's only fitting that the C8 is a copy of the Italia.

Why does the Brazilian racing season take place in the fall and winter. Is the summer just too damn hot?
>>150157364I mean, his life is objectively better than mine...
>>150157365and the first datsun Zcar was a copy of the triumph spitfire coupe. the fast vette c4 had a lotus twin cam v8. im not THE leaf historian. just old(you wouldnt believe me) and well read

>>150156544Hereโs a little fren I saw at the beginning of a hike a few weeks ago. I hope he helps you feel better.
>>150153057in Motorsport terms, a sports car is an open top thoroughbred racing prototype with enclosed wheels. a GT is the same but with a closed roof. and a touring car is based on a serial-production road vehicle. there have been concessions on all of these throughout the years because of changing regulations but the underlying intent still remains the same. a Grand Tourer (GT) was supposed to be a bigger faster and more advanced version of a Tourer, the earliest cars to be called 'touring cars' were things like the Model T.
for reference, a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was a sports car, whereas a 250 GTO was a GT.
>>150157365>the original Corvette was a copy of the Jaguar XK120They did a shit job, then. The XK120 is the best looking car in history, maybe tied with the 250 GTO.
I used to ride the bus past a green XK120 on blocks every day in middle school, way before I knew shit about cars, and I knew it was special and I dreamed about restoring it.
I love Corvettes, but none of them have ever come close to the work of art that the 120 was.
>>150157474Yeah, that makes sense.
>>150157501It was a copy the same way the C8 is an Italia copy.
Layout, packaging, tech, etc.
>>150156922he may have gotten a development deal but there was no chance in hell hms was gonna put a guy with 0 experience in their flagship car, that's just coping
>>150157494"touring" refered to the body NOT the chassis. you could have a model t sports car. your right about the 250tr being a sports car and the 250gt being the road version of the chassis, then used in endurance and "sports car" racing. its all very confusin. i start from the morgan3 wheel of the 20's as a true sports car., nothing on it that doesnt make it go. the 1972 ferrari 312pb is a "sports car" for class purposes. thinck sports car as motorbike/horse. and gt ,"sports car", touring car as horse and cart
Bros, I'm thinking seriously unwise thoughts...
>>150157641Promise me you'll lower it 5 inches and put wire wheels on it.
And treat yourself to some Willwood brakes.
>>150157641looks like a perious owner fucked up the suspension. probably fucked beyond repair. look at the ride height. big warning sign. probably a kit and the boomer doesnt know the difference. if, IF, its real, go right now. restored your looking at a $100g car. more in the uk. lots of parts available for it. that ride height though, jesus christ america.
>>150157619sports cars were originally invented for racing, and then road manufacturers adopted the term for marketing reasons. Any knowledge of what the word 'sport' actually means should clarify what the intent is.
>>150157703they were originally invented for blasting down country lanes on the weekend. the term sportscar as we know it didnt take on its current definition till way after the war. you could use any car as a sportscar in the fia sportscar championship untill 1972. thats when it became a championship for manufacturers. the austin healy that won its class in 65 lemans was technically a prototype. there were "sporting" cars prewar but sportscar never refered to a racing car. racing cars were their own thing and built to regulations. as suited.
you could buy a bugatti gran prix chassis and have it bodied with a "sporting" body, and use that for "touring car" based events like lemans.
>>150157698It's in "project" condition with literally no interior, which is perfect. If the suspension is fucked, well why not fix into something... fun? I'm smarter than to take on that English patient, but it is a dream car.

I'm not a mam to wish harm on another man, but...
>>150157802the term was invented to refer to the little barchettas coming out of Italy and the racing roadsters coming from England in the 1940s. They were literally GT cars with the roof chopped off specifically to make them into racing specials. that was the difference.
>>150157939Just humor him, anon. It's just better that way.
How are these qualifying groups determined? Group 1 is just Palou, Mclaughlin, Power and a bunch of shitters.

So if my math is right the CSBK standings are 150-148-144 going into the last race with a 25-20-16-13 points system, and being Mosport and how close races have been this year in general those podium positions will likely go down to the run to the line on the last lap.

And speaking of Dale it makes me wonder if the Driver had a pre existing condition that cashed in there.Yeah, there were probably some very specific circumstances that made a bad crash into a fatal one. Maybe something came through the windshield in just the wrong way or something?
It's always sad when a fellow motor/sp/ortsman dies, especially when it's racing related. I know everyone knows the risks, but that doesn't mean crap when his family has to look at the empty seat at the dinner table.
RIP, king.
>>150166936Does anyone have a webm or another link? Those have been taken down. I feel a bit ghoulish, but I am genuinely curious how it could be so bad.

>>150167012For asphalt modifides, the NASCAR Whelen Modifieds Tour is the top series and Thompson is a pretty important venue for them. Its hard to say exactly what race is the "premier" event because they run there a couple of times a season. In fact, they just ran last Wednesday, for whatever reason. They said something about it being the most consistently frequented track on the schedule. I forget what the exact stat was.
Here is a full race at Thompson from April.

It's weird to me that these things are considered stock cars and not open wheel cars. Here is a pretty great video explaining how they came to be.
https://youtu.be/B8BhTXzF8GU
Super Modifieds, on the other hand, include old Indy cars as part of their evolution, so I guess they can be considered full on open wheel cars.

Huh, I just rewatched that Super Modifieds video and S1apSh0es says Oswego is the Modifieds mecca, so I'm not going to question that. I'm also not editing this post, kek.

>>150168914Thanks for the link. That applause is so grim in hindsight.
It's pretty clear there was some kind of loss of control, but it is still crazy how much damage was done with just the speed coming out of turn 3. Everything about the barrier in turn 4 is an absolute nightmare. It doesn't properly contour to the track and on top of that, it actually narrows going into the straight, which is a problem a few tracks have. Hear attack or no, that is a pretty dangerous corner and I am surprised NASCAR allows them to run it like that.

Very nicely done.
Well, Rast put on a clinic, but it was still a pretty fun race. Fairly clean, too.

>>150167012Like that other guy said, for NASCAR (tour-type) modifieds, there isn't really a single big event. The top level is the NWMT and their biggest race would be anything at NHMS, simply because it's the big track (RIP Musket 250). However, the Tour's status has been significantly challenged by Tri-Track in recent years, where I'd say some of their races are "bigger" than some of the Tour's races.
Stafford Speedway, one of the main modified short tracks, told NASCAR to fuck off several years ago and lost their Tour dates, but their open modified events, especially the Spring Sizzler, are still important. The other major track is Thompson with its biggest Tour events being the Icebreaker and the World Series. Thompson's the most historic track in New England but its future has been questionable for years please go there.
Generally anything modified related in the south (e.g. SMART, Bowman Gray) is considered irrelevant. The only exception is New Smyrna for Speedweeks when guys from the northeast go down.
For weekly racing, the pinnacle is Stafford's SK modifieds. Same cars as the Tour, just with a different carb, different spec engine rules, and some rules regarding tires to make racing cheaper. Stafford is what I'd consider the #1 short track in the country.

>>150170451>Thompson's the most historic track in New England but its future has been questionable for years please go there. Wasn't it only opened in the 1970s? Surely there are older tracks in the region. It is definitely the most important for the Whelen Tour. I believe we have talked about this before, but I need to visit family and drag them along, I think a few might even have fun. The broadcast Wednesday said it was a sell out crowd and it sure looked like it, so that's good to see.
>Generally anything modified related in the south (e.g. SMART, Bowman Gray) is considered irrelevant. Ugh, tell me about it. We have more dirt tracks than you can shake a stick at and every time I ask the dirt track fans about any kind of asphalt oval racing, they just aren't interested. I think the closest asphalt short track is Nashville Speedway (the one at the Fairgrounds) or maybe Bristol. Neither of which I can just pop over to on a Saturday night.
I'm glad to see Acez has been including more small time stuff, so hopefully, I can watch more of it and maybe we can even discuss it and develop a community here. I was really stoked to see that other anon asking about it.
Dirt modified are cool too, but they never really resonated with me. It's a weid middle ground between a late model and a sprint car and I prefer both of those to the dirt modifieds. Which isn't to say they can't put on a good race.
