Well the report apparently has 99% of players as having had illegal actions under then then strict quantified limits under the 2000 rules, which have since been altered apparently due to the report. Also apparently found that itโ€™s pretty much impossible for an umpire to determine such small angles of straightening with the human eye.

Yeah they could have just reformed the Blast to have achieved all of the positive outcomes of the H*ndred without alienating the entire county cricket fanbase, but they chose not to. There's a school of thought at the ECB that the cricketing talent is too thinly spread out across 18 counties, and it'd be much better if there was just an elite of 8 city-based teams instead. They want to destroy the likes of Worcestershire, Somerset, and Derbyshire, who only really exist as major counties by accidents of history. The H*ndred is their mechanism for doing it.

Don't necessarily disagree the idea with more loans between the counties, but you have to be careful not to make the squads completely meaningless. Fans like to have some stability in their team's squads, so they can support the same core group of players through thick and thin. They particularly want to support local players, who have come up through the academy. If everybody just starts trading everybody for one competition each year, then it all becomes pointless and the real fans won't care

>>150189594
At the smaller grounds it seems like the T20 fixtures are still sold out, and I know it's still the biggest money-maker for all of the counties. Have seen that some of the Test grounds are more than half empty for some domestic T20 fixtures, but I also saw that Middlesex were charging like ยฃ38 a ticket (compared to ยฃ20 for a Hundred double header). Again, feels like it's deliberately structured that way, in those grounds, to push fans away from the Blast and towards the H*ndred

Ok so, theyโ€™re not going to do it but anyway, if they have the t20 at the end of the season so county players who are off contract can get signed for the franchises (which only exist for the t20) just for the t20. Iโ€™m just thinking how the franchises will be able to get some players, then again fuck them they can be entirely mercenaries.
When the bbl was being discussed it was clear theyโ€™d want more than one team in Sydney and Melbourne and they couldโ€™ve had Collingwood (the afl team) and South Sydney (the nrl team), those are also the two most popular football teams in the respective cities, and footy fans of the other teams wouldโ€™ve naturally supported the state teams (NSW and Victoria) out of spite, instead of this absolute pure sporting kino they made up completely new franchises with unrelated colours.

I donโ€™t know what they can do about worrying that the talent is spread too thin, perhaps just donโ€™t worry about it as the cream always rises and the supporters will support the teams not the players. Adding 8 more teams wonโ€™t help.
Weโ€™ve also seen in rugby that the people donโ€™t support this kind of amalgamated teams, in Wales and NZ in the union and in the NRL in Australia none of them have become in any way bigger than their predecessor clubs

I'm not sure it would make sense having both the franchises and the counties. You want one or the other, really. Basically it'd make most sense if they just did what Warwickshire did for their white ball teams, selling their soul and becoming the more franchise-friendly "Birmingham Bears". No real difference between that and "Birmingham Phoenix", except the Bears actually have players who play for Warwickshire instead of a bunch of random mercenaries.

Agree that the problem of talent being spread too thin is a bit of a non-issue. The richer counties already hoover up the talent from smaller counties, and despite that the Blast remains competitive every year, with nearly all counties having won it at some point. If you only had 8 teams, all packed with international talent already, there wouldn't be the same opportunities for younger players to come through and show what they're all about (like Bethell did in the Bears side last year)

Most of the central contracted players barely play any county cricket, and now the other โ€œtopโ€ players donโ€™t even play in the One Day Cup. The โ€œspread too thinโ€ is to quite a degree a symptom. Besides, Britain is about 3 times the population of Australia and Britain has 3 times the number of first-class counties versus state sides. The ECB and the establishment in English cricket only care about lining their own pockets, which is why most of the counties have been so badly run and they wouldnโ€™t have the blundred and they wouldnโ€™t have sold off those teams, if they cared then the money from the sales would go straight into grass roots and not via the counties first.

Yorkshire vs Lancashire in the one-day cup today. If both teams were at full strength and the match played on the weekend then it would be an absolutely kino day out for local cricketsfans, with 8 hours of spectacular entertainment in the sun. Instead, it's effectively a 2nd XI fixture, and played on a Tuesday when everybody is at work. Sad!
